  • Patent number: 5131688
Abstract: An electrically insulated pipe coupling and method is disclosed in which a first sleeve member and a second sleeve member are positioned in axial alignment and include oppositely positioned end portions axially spaced from one another to create an axial space therebetween. A resilient annular seal portion is gradually formed in situ (preferably by applying liquid urethane onto a rotating mandrel) in the axial space. The seal portion is chemically bonding to the oppositely positioned end portions and creates a low pressure coupling seal between said first and second sleeve members. An outer protective layer made from continuous synthetic resin saturated fiberglass strand windings is encircled around at least a portion of the end portions of the first and second sleeve members to enclose the seal portion. Finally, a rigid reinforcing sleeve is embedded in and covered by the fiberglass windings of the outer protective layer.

  • Patent number: 4606565
Abstract: A pipe coupling is provided having a sleeve with frusto-conical ends, elastomeric gaskets fitting in said frusto-conical ends, a follower at each end of the sleeve, tightening bolts acting on the followers to move them axially together to compress the elastomeric gaskets radially into sealing engagement with the pipe ends, a back up ring having a frusto-conical opening spaced from each follower opposite the sleeve, frusto-conical opening in each said back up ring having its largest opening toward said sleeve, a frusto-conical split jaw in each back up ring and auxiliary tightening means for moving the back up rings towards the adjacent followers to compress said jaws into the pipe ends.

  • Patent number: 4538841
Abstract: A coupling is provided for spaced coaxial pipe ends to be connected having a sleeve or middle ring with frusto-conical enlarged ends receiving the pipe ends to be connected coaxially thereof, elastomeric gaskets having a frusto-conical portion fitting the ends of the middle ring, follower members bearing on the gaskets to urge them into the middle ring ends, tightening members drawing the follower members toward each other, an insulating sleeve surrounding at least one pipe end with a depending radially inward spacer member and an insulating member having the shape of the follower member between the follower member and the pipe and middle ring and having a flange coaxial of the pipe extending through said follower member around the pipe. An electrical connector means may be metallurgically bonded to the middle ring.

  • Patent number: 4316053
Abstract: A pipe coupling and gasket is provided in which electrical conductivity through the coupling is assured, said coupling consisting of a middle ring with conical ends receiving an annular resilient gasket having a conductive helix made from metal wire of triangular cross section with an apex on the periphery of the helix, end caps urging the gasket into the conical ends of the middle ring and compression means acting on the end rings to move them toward the middle ring to compress the gasket and engage the helix against the middle ring, the end caps and a pipe therein.
