Patent number: 5680967Abstract: A dispensing cartridge is provided for viscous liquids, such as sealants. The cartridge includes an elongated tubular cylindrical housing defining an elongated interior chamber having a cylindrical interior wall. A dispensing nozzle is formed at one end of the housing and this dispensing nozzle has an opening open to the housing chamber which is less in cross-sectional size than the cross-sectional size of the housing chamber. A substantially semi-spherical wall portion extends between the cylindrical wall of the housing and the nozzle opening while at least one reinforcing rib extends outwardly from an outer surface of the semi-spherical wall portion. This reinforcing rib not only reinforces the semi-spherical wall portion of the housing but also enables the cartridge to be used in a standard caulking gun.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1996Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Courtaulds Aerospace, Inc.Inventors: Nguyen Thai Dang, David Paul Morris

Patent number: 5568988Abstract: A two or more part dispenser is provided having an elongated flexible housing which defines an interior chamber. A disc(s) is contained within the chamber and is movable from a closed to an open position. In its closed position, the disc(s) divides the chamber into two or more subchambers, each of which contains a different liquid. A collar is slidably mounted to the housing and coaxially disposed around each disc to maintain the disc in its closed position. Upon displacement of the collar away from the disc, a finger on the collar compresses the housing an displaces the disc to its open position thus allowing the two or more liquids in the subchambers to intermix together. A dispensing nozzle assembly having an outlet is fluidly connected by a fluid passageway to the housing chamber. A normally closed valve is positioned in series with this passageway so that, when the valve is moved to its open position, liquid within the housing chamber is dispensed out through the nozzle outlet.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1995Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: Courtaulds Aerospace, Inc.Inventors: Gary Knox, Nguyen T. Dang, John S. Frost, Stan Shofner

Patent number: 5531710Abstract: A closure is provided for a syringe of the type having a housing with a substantially tubular and cylindrical neck with a through bore through which the contents of the syringe are dispensed. The closure includes an elongated probe having a free end and a cross-sectional area substantially the same as the syringe through bore. The closure further includes a first and second tubular and cylindrical sealing ring. The first tubular and cylindrical ring has an inner diameter substantially the same as the outer diameter of the syringe neck while the second sealing ring is positioned concentrically around the first sealing ring. The sealing rings and probe are dimensioned so that, upon insertion of a free end of the probe into the syringe through bore, the probe and first sealing ring sealingly engage both the internal and external surfaces of the syringe neck. Simultaneously, the free ends of the first and second sealing ring sealingly engage the outer surface of the syringe housing.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Courtaulds Aerospace, Inc.Inventors: Nguyen T. Dang, Lawrence B. Martin, Richard Jerrard

Patent number: 5225472Abstract: A method and composition for decreasing the viscosity of mercaptan terminated polymers. The method involves adding thiol terminated trithio-orthoformate polycondensates to the mercaptan terminated polymer to achieve desired decreases in viscosities without adversely affecting other physical properties. The polycondensates have the formula(HS--R--S--).sub.2 CH--S--R'--S[--CH(--S--R"--S).sub.2 --].sub.n (H).sub.xwherein R, R', and R" are alkylene, arylene, alkylene thioether, or alkylene ether, either the same or different; n is 0-10; and x is n+1.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Courtaulds Aerospace, Inc.Inventors: Randy Cameron, Jonathan Zook
