  • Patent number: 5661934
Abstract: A loading dock bumper assembly includes at least one bracket for mounting the assembly on a surface of a loading dock. At least one resilient bumper component is attached to the bracket, the bumper component formed of a block of resilient recycled plastic material is positioned to receive the impact of a motor vehicle backed into abutment with the dock. The block is preferably formed of extruded high density polyethylene. A side of the block adapted to receive contact with a motor vehicle may be provided with a slot along its length. The slot is adapted to have secured therein a wear bar substantially of equal length with the bumper component. The preferred wear bar is a steel bar of rectangular cross section fitted into the slot with a surface thereof substantially flush with the surface of the resilient component. At least one corner of the block preferably is provided with a chamfer cut at approximately 45.degree. whereby lodging of a truck bumper on the assembly is obviated.

  • Patent number: 4457521
Abstract: An end face seal especially adapted for use in severe service environments such as for sealing track pins of crawler type tractors. The seal includes a primary annular seal, having a radially extending flange portion for contacting a mating surface in face sealing engagement and an axially extending flange portion, and a secondary annular sealing member positioned in use about the axial flange portion. The cross section of the secondary annular sealing member is shaped so as to accommodate both axial and radial compressive loads, and is preferably generally parallelogram-shaped in an unstressed condition. The seal also includes an annular reinforcing member of generally L-shaped cross section adapted to distribute the axial load to the seal face and to prevent radially outward deformation of the outermost portion of the radial flange of the primary seal ring.

  • Patent number: 4436315
Abstract: A seal assembly for reception in a tapered counterbore which seal assembly includes a primary metal sealing ring with a seal band disposed on one end face thereof, and which further includes a frusto-conical or other tapered center portion and an opposite end portion which is contoured to receive and hold a secondary sealing ring, and a secondary sealing ring of annular configuration and having a generally central portion including, in its unstressed condition, a body with a cental body portion of generally circular cross section and including means lying outside the central body portion and adapted to engage the counterbore and/or the opposite end portion of the primary seal ring for positive location of the secondary seal ring during installation, with the counterbore or opposite end portion engaging means being positioned so as to move out of engagement with said tapered center portion and said counterbore respectively, so that said counterbore and tapered center portion, respectively, engage the round sur

  • Patent number: 4386047
Abstract: A knock-out method and apparatus for use in connection with the molding of articles, such as, for example, oil seals fabricated from elastomeric material bonded to a rigid casing, including a plurality of plunger members to apply successive sequential forces to selected sets of molded oil seals for removal thereof from frictional engagement within the molding machine and permit subsequent retrieval from the molding machine. The plurality of plunger members move upward into contact with oil seals retained in the molding center plate to apply sequential forces to the selected sets of the molded articles to position the seals for ready access on top of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4336945
Abstract: A seal assembly for creating a fluid seal between first and second, relatively movable elements, at least one of which is arranged for rotation about a given axis. The seal has a mounting portion thereof adapted to be fixedly associated in use with said first element, a dirt exclusion portion and an oil retention portion. The dirt exclusion portion has a plurality of annular excluder lips, and the excluder lips, as manufactured, extend radially inwardly and are spaced axially apart from each other. The lips also have an inside diameter substantially smaller than that of said second relatively movable element, and the excluder lips, in position of use, contact and lie along the second element, as installed, the lips are flexed so that the inner portions thereof extend radially inwardly as well as axially away from the region to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 4256315
Abstract: A seal and sealed mechanism adapted to prevent dirt from entering portions of the seal cavity. The seal includes at least one annular primary seal ring of generally L-shaped cross-section and having a sealing surface formed on one side of the radial flange of the primary ring. An elastomeric secondary seal ring is also provided, with such ring being generally parallelogram-shape in cross-section. The inner diameter of the secondary ring fits snuggly in use over the outer diameter of the axial flange of the primary ring. A dirt excluder lip extends outwardly from one face of the secondary seal ring and covers the end portion of the radial flange of the primary ring to prevent foreign material from entering the cavity between the outer inclined surface of the secondary ring and the end surface of the radial flange of the primary ring. The excluder lip is effective in various axial positions of the seal. The seal may comprise a pair of identical primary and secondary rings in face to face relation.

  • Patent number: 4249874
Abstract: A molding press for insert molding of composite articles. The press has upper and lower plates movable between open and closed positions, and a die set positioned between the plates. The die set includes a core member with surfaces defining a portion of the molding cavity and another surface for receiving and supporting the insert. The core member also includes means defining a part of an area for receiving a charge of curable material and a part of a scrap forming cavity. A second mold member has surfaces defining a second portion of the article forming cavity and a second portion of said strap forming cavity, and the second mold member also includes means for engaging the insert and cooperating with it to form an axially movable flash barrier. The second mold part also has means cooperating with the insert to form a second, stationary flash barrier on an angularly related surface of the insert.

  • Patent number: 4219205
Abstract: A multiple lip seal for oil and like fluids. The seal has an annular metal or like rigid casing portion of generally U-shaped cross section. A seal body is bonded to one flange of the U, and the body includes axially spaced apart, radially extending lips formed integrally with said body. In the preferred form, the flange about which the body is formed extends axially a distance at least as far as the extent of the multiple lip so that there is radial support for each of the lips, while the oppositely directed or other flange of the U-shaped casing remains free from rubber for mounting in a machine counterbore. The axially inner, intermediate and outer lips have different inside diameters in some cases and have the same diameters in other cases. Preferably, the body is thickest, and the radial extent of the lips is the shortest, at the axially inner portion of the seal.
