Patent number: 11787612Abstract: An improved sealant packaging and method for use with sealing joints and cracks in pavement and parking lots is provided. Liquid sealant material is poured by volume into a container draped with a sheet. Container is cooled so that the sealant becomes a solid block, with the sheet adhered to the sides of the sealant block such that the sheet forms a container for the sealant. The sheet also acts a release liner for easily removing the sealant block from the container. Two or more contained blocks are stacked together, forming a package of two or more blocks self-sealed by sheets. When the package is placed in a melting kettle, heat migrates through the spaces between the individual sealant blocks and allows the smaller sealant blocks to melt quickly and evenly. Sheet and film melt with sealant material and are incorporated therein to form the final sealant product.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2020Date of Patent: October 17, 2023Assignee: Crafco, Inc.Inventors: Thomas D. Splinter, Stephen Patrick Giersch

Patent number: 5967375Abstract: A sealant melter incorporates a sealant block feed assembly that reduces the labor required to feed sealant blocks to the sealant tank of the melter and that reduces or even eliminates the risk that hot liquid sealant will splash out of the sealant tank when sealant blocks are fed into it. The sealant block feed assembly preferably includes a top-fed splash box and a conveyor assembly for feeding sealant blocks to the splash box from a towing/storage vehicle or the like. The splash box incorporates internal guards in the form of counterbalanced flaps that prevent hot liquid sealant from splashing out of the splash box when the sealant blocks are fed into it from above. The conveyor assembly includes a conveyor that is selectively controllable, either from the towing/storage vehicle or from curbside, to receive sealant blocks and to selectively feed the received sealant blocks to the splash box.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Crafco, Inc.Inventor: David W. Barnes

Patent number: 4692028Abstract: A sealant melter/applicator includes a sealant melting chamber, an internal combustion engine having a rotating power output shaft and an hydraulic pump which converts the rotary motion of the engine power output shaft into a flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid. The hydraulic pump is coupled to selectively energize a first hydraulic motor which rotates a sealant agitator positioned within the sealant melting chamber and a second hydraulic motor which drives a sealant pump for transferring sealant from the melting chamber through an applicator hose to a sealant discharge nozzle. A sealant flow control valve is coupled in series with the applicator hose to regulate the flow of sealant through the sealant discharge nozzle. A flow control valve position sensor is coupled to an hydraulic flow diverter valve. When the sealant flow control valve is placed in the "closed" position, the flow diverter valve directs the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the first hydraulic motor is activate the sealant agitator.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1986Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Crafco, Inc.Inventor: Floyd D.
