  • Patent number: 5927715
Abstract: A multiple piece toy in which each piece includes a base having an interconnectable peripheral edge which selectively mates with the peripheral edges of other pieces to enable multiple relationships therebetween. Extending upwardly from each piece is a figurine of animal-like character. Selective interconnection of the pieces forms an infinite variety of groupings of the pieces for play and display.

  • Patent number: 5894754
Abstract: The system for producing bent sheet-metal articles comprises a bending machine (80) having a punch (84) and a die (86) which cooperate with each other and define a bending space, and a manipulator (64) having a movable head (76) which can grip a piece of sheet metal and place it in the bending space. Each piece to be bent has its own gripper and the head (76) of the manipulator (64) has rapid-attachment means for gripping and releasing the gripper associated with each piece. A table for defining the position of a piece to be bent, a manipulator for gripping and moving a piece of sheet metal by means of a floating head, a bending machine comprising an auxiliary structure for measuring the relative displacement of the punch and the die, and a device for automatically replacing tools of the bending machine are also described.

  • Patent number: 5830650
Abstract: A method of mutagenesis by which a predetermined amino acid is introduced into each and every position of a selected set of positions in a preselected region (or several different regions) of a protein to produce library of mutants. The method is based on the premise that certain amino acids play crucial role in the structure and fuction of proteins. Libraries can be generated which contain a high proportion of the desired mutants and are of reasonable size for screening. This libraries can be used to study the role of specific amino acids in protein structure and function and to develop new or improved proteins and polypeptides such as enzymes, antibodies, single chain antibodies and catalytic antibodies.

  • Patent number: 5765984
Abstract: In order to load and discharge pieces of sheet metal automatically onto and from a machine tool having a horizontal table movable along a first horizontal axis, a horizontal discharge table and a horizontal loading table are provided in positions in which the tables are side by side and substantially aligned with the horizontal plane of the table of the machine tool. An unprocessed piece of sheet metal to be supplied to the machine tool is placed on the loading table. Initially, the piece-holding table of the machine tool is positioned beside the discharge table. The piece of sheet metal on the piece-holding table is transferred to the discharge table by being slid on the bearing surfaces of the tables in the direction of a second horizontal axis perpendicular to the first axis. The table of the machine tool is then moved to a position in which it is beside the loading table.

  • Patent number: 5209624
Abstract: A sheet or plate (10) for use for example as a stiffening plate for a book cover comprises an adhesive layer (12) applied to a narrow zone extending along and adjacent to at least one end of the plate or sheet. The adhesive layer (12) is covered by a protective peel-off strip (13) having a free end portion (15). This free end portion is folded along a folding line (16), which defines an acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the protective strip, whereby the free end portion of the protective strip extends beyond said edge of the sheet so as to define an accessible gripping end. The plate or sheet (10) may be arranged and retained in abutting engagement with a second sheet or plate (21), such as a book cover. Now, the protective strip (13) may be removed by pulling the free end portion (15), whereby the sheets or plates may be interconnected.

  • Patent number: 5177724
Abstract: An optical tape recorder uses a resonant flexure scanner to scan across the width of optical tape in a straight or nearly straightline. The use of flexure eliminates bearings in the scanner design and lowers cost. High data rate is achieved by using a multi-channel laser diode array for writing, imaged by a single moving lens mounted on the scanner. The use of a highly resonant scanner enables to interpolate the position of the lens by knowing the amplitude and frequency of the scanner. The flexing part of the scanner is a single flat spring or a combination of flat springs arranged to generate linear motion.
