Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for updating/modifying/upgrading the system configuration of a stand alone non-network connectible device. The method is performed while a portable device is docked to the non-network connectible device. System configuration update information is embedded within the ordinary data content that is received from the portable device during the routine operation of the stand alone non-network connectible device. Upon receiving the embedded system configuration update information the non-network connectible device decrypts the embedded information and updates the system configuration accordingly. Generation of the embedded system configuration update information is performed in the portable docking device, and installation is performed on the non-network connectible device without requiring a network connection in the stand alone device.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating user communication from a location. The system comprises two or more cameras for capturing two or more videos at a first location, a control unit for streaming one or more of the videos captured to a first communication unit at the first location through a first network, and streaming one or more of the videos captured to a second communication unit located at a second location through a second network, a server for identifying a location data of the first location based on an identifier of the control unit, and a communication platform associated with the first location. The communication platform is accessible by the first and second communication units through the first and second networks respectively.
Abstract: There is provided a sheath for a flexible electrical contact that is incorporated within a sound reproduction device. The sheath preferably includes at least one opening at each end of the sheath to enable the sheath to be worn over the electrical contact with each opening having a thickened periphery ring. The main body of the sheath may be either a cylindrical shape or a conical shape. It is advantageous that the sheath damps a resonance vibration of the flexible electrical contact during operation of the sound reproduction device when the sheath is worn over the flexible electrical contact. The flexible electrical contact may be incorporated within a battery compartment of the sound reproduction device. A corresponding method of using the sheath is also disclosed.

Abstract: There is provided a power supply for an electrical device operable in active mode and in standby mode. The power supply comprises a transformer having a primary winding on the primary side and a secondary winding on the secondary side. The primary winding is connectable to an AC voltage supply and is arranged to comprise N turns when the electrical device is in active mode and more than N turns when the electrical device is in standby mode. Circuitry on the secondary side is arranged to provide an output voltage for the electrical device during active mode.
Abstract: There is provided a method for charging a power source of a digital media player (20) using a cable (24) connected to a computer (34), and also a method for activating a lower volume during playback of content on the digital media player (20). Both methods may be triggered by a toggling switch (22) on the media player (20).
Abstract: A sound producing device comprising a sound producing member adapted to fit at an entrance of an ear canal of a user's ear, and a hooking member pivotable about the sound producing member between a first configuration wherein the hooking member is hooked to the user's ear, and a second configuration wherein the hooking member is unhooked from the user's ear. The hooking member comprising a cord holder pivotable at a first end about the sound producing member, and a cord held by the cord holder at a second end of the cord holder. The cord is shaped in a manner such that it curves from the front of the user's ear to the back of the user's ear in the first configuration, wherein the cord holder has a substantially larger cross-sectional area compared with the cross-sectional area of the cord for aiding the user to grip onto the cord holder during use of the sound producing device.
Abstract: A power supply (V1) for an electrical device comprising a transformer (X1) having primary and secondary windings. The primary winding is connectable to an AC voltage supply and circuitry on the secondary side is arranged to provide a DC output voltage for the electrical device. The power supply also comprises a switch (111—transistors Q1 & Q2) between the primary winding of the transformer and the AC supply, and a rectifier (Diode D6) for rectifying the AC voltage. The switch is arranged to switch on at some point as the rectified AC voltage increases, once it has reached a non-zero value, thereby providing a current flow through the primary winding and hence through the secondary winding when the switch (111—transistors Q1 & Q2) is switched off. The switch is further arranged to switch off before the rectified AC voltage starts to increase again.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving digital audio data which does not require the recovery of a clock from the data. Instead, the digital audio data is sampled at a rate greater than a clock rate of the digital audio data. Appropriate transitions in the digital audio data are detected to allow reconstruction of digital values represented by the digital audio data.
