  • Patent number: 4120133
Abstract: A room element for a full-scale or small-scale building has a rigid frame or chassis consisting of a floor panel, composed of prefabricated panel sections rigidly connected in an end-to-end assembly by structural means, and prefabricated vertical load-bearing structures, rigidly connected to the panel adjacent the ends thereof, for supporting superimposed parts (e.g. the roof or ceiling, or a superimposed room element). At least one of the load-supporting structures may be integral with a panel section. The panel sections form the bases of the corresponding regions of the room element and at least one of them is incorporated in a three-dimensional prefabricated room element section, of unit form, which unit comprises such vertical load-bearing or non-load-bearing bearing structures substantially all the installations, required in that part of the completed room element. The unit may be a bathroom unit, staircase unit, heating unit, elevator shaft unit, or kitchen unit.

  • Patent number: 3940903
Abstract: A prefabricated transportable room element for use in the construction of a plural storey building comprising a plurality of such room elements stacked one upon another, the room element comprising a floor panel structure and at least one vertical load-bearing structure extending upwardly of the floor panel structure, the room element having releasably connected thereto structural bracing means which is connectable to the foundation of a building and/or to the bracing means of another like room element when the room element is stacked therewith, the room element and the bracing means having buttressing surfaces which co-operate to transmit horizontal loads on the room element to the bracing means whilst allowing relative vertical movement between the room element and the bracing means when the room element is incorporated in a building with the bracing means connected to the foundation of the building and/or the bracing means of a like room element stacked with the room element and with the bracing means rele

  • Patent number: 3933962
Abstract: A structural component, such as a load-bearing column or a floor panel, is initially made undersize between two opposed faces and is brought to accurate size and the angularity of said faces made accurate, by locating the component relative to a reference surface, with a gap between that surface and one of the faces, that face is provided in the gap with a layer of settable material capable of adhering to the face, and this material is squeezed by relative adjustment between the reference surface and an abutment to give the component the desired accuracy.
