In an embodiment, a method can include receiving, by a server from a network connection client executing on a user equipment, a network connection request to authorize connection to a network. The method can also include determining, by the server, whether the user equipment can support communication via an internet protocol-based advanced service of the network. In response to determining that the user equipment can support communication with an internet protocol-based advanced service of the network, the method can further include authorizing, by the server, a network connection for the user equipment while prohibiting the user equipment from using the internet protocol-based advanced service during the network connection.
