  • Patent number: 6631832
Abstract: A resealable single-piece push-pull dispensing closure is disclosed that includes a circumferential skirt, a top member circumferentially coupled to the skirt, and a sipper spout. The sipper spout extends upwardly from the top member and has a curved sipper surface that truncates to from a substantially flat landing surface. Plural apertures are disposed in the landing surface, and apertures may be disposed at a periphery of the sipper surface. The curvature of the sipper surface has a constant cross section curvature throughout the width of the sipper surface. A user's lip may rest on the sipper surface while drinking directly therefrom, or the top member may have a concave portion in which a user's lip may rest during drinking.

  • Patent number: 6616015
Abstract: A system for pressure molding plastic material includes a source of hot flowable plastic material and a manifold for receiving hot flowable plastic material from the source and for transporting the hot flowable plastic material to a nozzle that is disposed within a nozzle cavity. A heater is provided to heat the nozzle and is positioned outside of, but close to, the nozzle cavity and includes at least one electrical supply wire. A shut-off seal is positioned within the nozzle cavity to seal the nozzle with respect to the wall defining the shut-off cavity. In addition, a secondary seal is most advantageously positioned between the shut-off seal and the heater for ensuring that any hot flowable plastic material that might leak through the shut-off seal does not come into contact with the electrical supply wire. This has been found to increase the reliability and operating life of conventional pressure molding systems.

  • Patent number: 6588085
Abstract: A method for manufacture of a metal cosmetic case having contrasting bright areas and duller textured areas, comprising the steps of: fabricating a cosmetic case from aluminum alloy; including polishing the cosmetic case and applying a surface texture to portions of the cosmetic case to form textured portions thereon; anodizing the cosmetic case to provide a bright shine to at least the outer surface of the cosmetic case; and printing over the textured portions with an ink to provide the textured portions with a contrasting finish to the bright shine of the outer surface of the cosmetic case.

  • Patent number: 6575684
Abstract: A can lid having a top plate, a tab, a rivet, a score, a tongue, a first deboss, an emboss, a second deboss, and an embossed ridge. The first deboss is formed entirely within the score. The second deboss and emboss are formed entirely within the first deboss. The second deboss is formed by matching arcuate sidewalls, and has a sloped bottom surface. The rivet is offset from a center of the lid. The tongue is disposed between the rivet and top plate perimeter where the rivet is closest to the perimeter. The emboss is uniformly spaced from the score. An embossed ridge is uniformly spaced from the score outside of the score. In another embodiment, the second deboss is replaced with a contact emboss. A die insert for forming the first deboss, emboss, and second deboss (and, alternatively, contact emboss) is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6564958
Abstract: A snap-on or screw type, tamper evident closure having first and second relatively moveable plastic parts (16, 18) which move from an initial position to a new limiting position when the closure is first opened, the new limiting position being visually distinguishable from the initial position to provide the tamper evidence. The two plastics parts are formed in mutually intimate association but have inter-engaging complimentary formations (22, 28, 40, 42) which become irreversibly disengaged on first opening of the closure.

  • Patent number: 6543652
Abstract: A dispensing closure (1) incorporating a flexible, self-closing valve (5) and a transport seal for preventing accidential dispensing of product through the valve during transportation and storage of a filled container. The closure includes a cover (4), which is adapted to move axially between raised and lowered positions, to actuate the transport seal. The transport seal comprises a sealing plate (8), located between the valve and the container opening, which partially occludes the container opening but defines at least one dispensing orifice (9). To form the transport seal, the cover is lowered so that it presses part of the flexible valve against the sealing plate around the dispensing orifice/s, thereby blocking the dispensing passageway to the valve.

  • Patent number: 6536627
Abstract: A pourer spout for a composite package of the carton brick type, arranged to be located level with the opening zone of the latter. The pourer spout comprises a base (2) fixed onto the container around the opening zone, and an articulated cover (4), able to reclose the container after opening. A perforating piece (6) is mounted pivotally on the base (2), facing the opening zone, in order to be moved between an initial position in which it is situated entirely outside the container to a final position in which it is situated substantially inside the container. A striker (8) is mounted pivotally on the base (2) in order to push the perforating piece (6) towards the inside of the container while perforating the wall of the latter and to more or less take the initial position of the perforating piece (6), the striker (8) in this last position acting as pourer.

  • Patent number: 6536447
Abstract: A dispensing container includes a sealed compartment closed by a moveable panel having a dispensing aperture therein and a dispensing tube depending therefrom. The moveable panel, dispensing aperture and tube are of an integral homogeneous single piece construction of molded material which effects dosing absent complicated conventional valving and reduces both production and consumer costs.

  • Patent number: 6488186
Abstract: A closure for dispensing a viscous material such as mustard or ketchup from a container includes a threaded closure body having a dispensing orifice through which viscous material may flow during dispensing, and a collection space for collecting a volume of thin liquid that may form on top of the viscous material during storage. The collection space acts to intercept the thin liquid as the container is inverted to dispense the viscous material. As the material continues to be dispensed, the thin liquid is re-mixed into the material, thereby keeping the solid to liquid ratio of the material in the container relatively constant. Additionally, a valve may be placed in the orifice for at least partially precluding passage of the thin liquid through the orifice during initial dispensation.

  • Publication number: 20020172578
Abstract: An easy open safety end having a central portion and a rim portion separated by a score line. A tab applies a force to the end adjacent the score line so as to shear the score line at opening. A circumferentially extending fold is formed in either the central portion or the rim portion, or both, to protect the user from being cut by the sharp edge the results upon shearing the score line. A first circumferential portion of the fold is tight, whereas a second portion, which is preferably proximate the tab is loose. The fold is displaced below a portion of the end adjacent the score line by a circumferentially extending gap. In the tight portion of the fold, the width of the gap is less than the thickness of the end, and preferably less than one half the thickness, whereas in the loose portion of the fold, the width of the gap is greater than the thickness of the end, and is preferably at least twice the thickness of the end.

  • Patent number: 6478194
Abstract: A dispensing closure for a container (1) having a neck (3) with an open end (4) comprises a closure cap (7) adapted to be attached to the neck to close the container and a dispensing spout (8) formed with a dispensing passage (13) having an inlet opening (14) at one end and an outlet opening (15) at the other end. The spout (8) is mounted on the closure cap (7) for limited sliding movement between a closed position in which the dispensing passage (13) is isolated from the interior of the container and an open position in which the dispensing passage is in communication with the interior of the container. The movement of the spout from its closed to its open position follows a part circular path.
