  • Patent number: 5931612
Abstract: A hob cutter (4) for machining face or crown gears comprises a disc-like cutter body having an axis of rotation (6) and a number of hob teeth groups (1, 2, 3, . . . ) which are uniformly distributed over the circumference and which are each bounded at the front by a cutting face (S) and at the cirumferential side by a clearance face (V). The cutting face and the clearance face of each hob teeth group intersect one another in a cutting edge (9) which determines the shape of the face gear to be machined. The clearance face of each hob teeth group is made up of a number of generatrices (L, m) which are each situated in a machining plane which is determined by a line which intersects or crosses the axis of rotation (6) perpendicularly and intersects the generatrix at the position of the cutting edge. The extensions of the generatrices (L, m) determining the clearance face run at a minium spacing over the outside of the downstream hob teeth group.

  • Patent number: 5845533
Abstract: In a face gear transmission with a cylindrical pinion and a face gear meshing therewith the toothing of the face gear is derived from a theoretical profile (22) of a pinion with an infinitely small thickness by moving the centre of this pinion along an imaginary axis which the coincides with the axis of rotation of the cylindrical pinion. The teeth of the face gear are crowned so as to achieve the required tooth clearance. The shape of the teeth of the face gear is such that upon the movement of the theoretical pinion profile (22) in the direction of the imaginary axis of rotation, starting from a defined diameter between the maximum and the minimum diameter of the toothing of the face gear, the centre of the theoretical pinion profile undergoes a displacement (P.sub.1, P.sub.2) at the same time at right angles to the imaginary axis of rotation in the direction towards the toothing of the face gear.

  • Patent number: 5791840
Abstract: Method of producing a conical or cup-shaped crown wheel which can mesh with a cylindrical pinion with the inclusion of an angle .alpha.. The crown wheel is produced by means of a generating process. The tool (1, 43) consists of a disc (3) which has machining elements (53) disposed on its circumference whose cutting edges lie in the surface of a profile which extends in the form of helical ribs (4) at a pitch angle .gamma. around the circumference of the disc (3), said profile in each cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the helical direction of the ribs (4) being the shape of a number of adjacent cuttting teeth (53), based on the basic geometry of a cylindrical pinion which is characteristic of the crown wheel and the center point of which lies on a circle which is in a plane perpendicular to the rotation shaft of the tool, and has a center point lying on the rotation shaft of the tool.

  • Patent number: 5720584
Abstract: In the production of a crown wheel which can mesh with a cylindrical pinion if the axes of rotation of the crown wheel and the pinion are not parallel, the workpiece from which the crown wheel is produced and a generating tool rotate at a ratio in the speed of rotation which corresponds to the proportion of the number of passes of the tool and the number of teeth of the crown wheel to be produced, and the tool is brought into engagement with the workpiece and is moved in such a way along the workpiece in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the cylindrical pinion that the tool works the tooth flanks of the crown wheel to be produced. When the center point of the tool is moved in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the cylindrical pinion which can mesh with the workpiece, and the teeth of which form an angle .beta.

  • Patent number: 5622459
Abstract: A tool for manufacturing crown wheels by means of a machining hobbing process, which consists of a disc which can rotate about its axis and on the circumference of which machining elements are disposed whose cutting edges lie in the surface of a profile which mainly extends over the circumference of the disc as helical ribs. In each cross-sectional plane perpendicular to the screw direction of the ribs, the profile has the shape of a number of profile teeth situated next to one another. The profile shape is based on the base geometry of a pinion which is characteristic for the crown wheel to be manufactured and has involute toothing. The profile has such a shape that a part thereof lies outside the surface of revolution which is formed by rotation of the addendum circle of the characteristic pinion about the rotational axis of the tool.

  • Patent number: 5611233
Abstract: Transmission unit for driving two parallel shafts, at least one shaft being movable at right angles to its lengthwise direction, for example for a rolling mill (1). In this case each shaft (8, 11) is provided with a crown wheel (14, 15) which meshes with a cylindrical pinion (16), each pinion having a shaft (17) of which the axis intersects or crosses the axis of the shaft belonging to the crown wheel at right angles, and the rotations of the pinions being interconnected with a fixed transmission ratio. The cylindrical pinions can be fitted on one common shaft which can lie in the plane through the axes of the two shafts or at a fixed distance parallel to said plane, independent of the movement of one of the shafts or both shafts. Two pinions can be combined to form one pinion.

  • Patent number: 5411431
Abstract: Crown wheels (21) are ground on a grinding machine with the aid of a hobbing grinding disc (11) of ceramic material which is formed on the same grinding machine with the aid of a dressing crown wheel (13) with one or more teeth (14) provided with a dressing material such as diamond. The shape of said crown wheel tooth or teeth is in principle the same as the shape of the teeth of the crown wheel to be ground. The hobbing grinding disc (11) is mounted on the grinding wheel shaft (12) of the grinding machine both during its formation and during the grinding of the crown wheels, while the dressing crown wheel (13) or the crown wheel (21) to be ground is mounted on the workpiece holder (15) of the grinding machine.

  • Patent number: 5288179
Abstract: A cutter for producing face gears, comprising a disc-shaped cutter body with cutting teeth (23) fitted on the periphery. The cutting edge (24) of each cutting tooth lies in a surface of revolution which is produced by turning an imaginary gear wheel of infinitely low thickness about the axis (20) of the cutter and simultaneously about its own axis. Each cutting tooth (23) of the cutter is of such a shape that the cutting tooth is re-grindable, without the shape of the cutting edge of the cutting tooth changing as a result. This is achieved through the fact that the profile of each cutting tooth shifts in planes (22, 22a, 22b...) from the cutting edge (24) of the cutting tooth to the rear side thereof in the direction of the axis (20) of the cutter.
