Abstract: A feeder for pigs as they grow continually from weanling size to finisher pig size includes a trough and a shelf with a water pipe located underneath the shelf with a plurality of water dispensing nipples operable by the pigs to dispense water downwardly into the trough for mixing with feed in the trough. The shelf is fixed in height at a common height for use by the pigs both as weanling size and as they grow to finisher size so that it is not adjustable to accommodate growth. This is obtained by selecting the dimensions of the height of the shelf relative to the water nipples and the side walls and the shape of the shelf to allow the required access.

Abstract: A cooking grill includes a container defining a combustion area and a cooking surface over the combustion area. The grill features a pellet burner unit disposed within the container under the cooking surface and a pellet feeding device arranged to feed pellets into the burner unit. The burner unit comprises a trough into which the pellets are fed. The trough is mounted in a movable support which can be pulled out from within the container. The feeding device includes a removable cartridge for containing pellets and a receptacle for receiving the cartridge inserted thereon so that the cartridge supplies pellets for transfer to the pellet burner unit. In addition, a gas burner system is arranged in the container adjacent to the pellet burner unit so as to apply heat from the gas burner system to the cooking surface in addition to or as an alternative to the pellet burner unit.

Abstract: An animal feeding apparatus includes a duct through which feed falls under gravity. A drive wheel is mounted in the duct and includes a plurality of paddle blades such that falling feed in the duct acts to drive the blades to rotate the wheel about the axis. A syringe is laid in a support channel where a plunger of the syringe is compressed longitudinally for feeding a liquid to an injection nozzle into the duct by a screw driven by the wheel. The wheel and the support channel are mounted on a common housing forming the duct and containing the wheel, to an injection opening on the bottom of the housing for addition to the feed passing through the duct portion.

Abstract: In an apparatus for feeding animals including one or more feed dispensing containers from which the animals can take feed which are fed by supply ducts from a supply a device is provided which includes a feed supply duct portion arranged such that the feed falls through the feed supply duct portion under gravity. A drive member is mounted at the duct and includes a plurality of paddle blades of a wheel mounted for rotation about an axis of the wheel such that falling feed in the duct acts to drive the blades to rotate the wheel about the axis and a driven component driven by the wheel. The driven component is in most cases a dispenser for feeding a liquid or particulate additive material from a supply cartridge, which is mounted on a common housing forming the duct and containing the wheel, to an injection opening on the bottom of the housing for addition to the feed passing through the duct portion.

Abstract: A water supply for an animal feeder includes a valve member on a nipple controlled by the animal connected to a water supply duct for supplying water to the valve member. A regulator is provided for controlling a flow rate and the nipple controls the flow rate by defining a housing through which the water passes with a resilient cylindrical body mounted in the housing. The resilient body defines a convoluted or serpentine water flow path therethrough or thereon for flow of water along the flow path through the housing with the flow path defining a rate of flow of the water. The housing has an adjustment member for adjusting application of pressure to the resilient body to change an amount of compression of the resilient body so as to distort the water flow path and change the rate of flow. The serpentine path is also of increased length to restrict the flow.

The clamping mechanism comprises a first clamping surface arranged for engagement with an inner surface of the bottom wall and an opposing second clamping surface arranged for engagement with a bottom surface of the blade. The retaining mechanism comprises a recessed portion longitudinally spaced from the clamping surfaces and an adjustable abutting element in opposite relation to the recessed portion such that the clamping surfaces are located therebetween. The abutting element includes two contact surfaces which are respectively positionable so as to define an abutting surface arranged for butting engagement with a rear surface of the blade. Each working position of the abutting element is suited for retaining a particular width of blade between same and the recessed portion.

The height of the shelf is adjustable to change the feed rate by straps which are adjustable by a common longitudinal bar which is located at a selected adjustment position by meshing teeth. The portion of the lever is movable in a direction away from the plate a non-meshing position in which the bar can rotate around the pivot axis. A common water supply extends along both feeders and is heated by a common heating element.

Abstract: A rack for storing elongate core sample boxes is formed from two separate frames each having three upright posts formed of tubular steel and a plurality of steel tubes extending across between the posts and welded to the posts. The frames can be transported in assembled form and then connected across the top and bottom of the uprights by metal bridging members with C-shaped inserts into the ends of the posts. The structure is held together and braced by diagonal braces which attach to tabs on the bridging members by a wedge drive into a slot in the tab.

Abstract: Euthanasia of birds is carried out by locating a tool on the neck of the bird and crushing the neck between two co-operating members each having a front face for engaging the neck which is sufficiently blunt to prevent cutting of the skin of the neck during the crushing action so as to prevent escape of blood from the neck with the members being held separated at an end of the crushing action to prevent severing of the neck. The members can be driven together for example by hand pressure or on a frame by a foot lever or can be provided as a pair of counter-rotating wheels.
