  • Patent number: 8301995
Abstract: Annotations are associated with individual digital pictures that represent a characteristic of the pictures, such as their content, place of taking, etc. An annotation is directly entered into a digital camera and selected for association with pictures to be taken after that. The association of the selected annotation occurs automatically within the camera until another annotation is selected. An annotation is preferably entered into the camera by the voice of the user prior to taking pictures that are characterized by the annotation. The pictures may then be conveniently sorted by subject matter through use of the annotations. The same technique may be used to annotate audio segments.

  • Patent number: 8301784
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards providing a switch proxy service (SPS) to transcode content from a native format into a format optimized for play at a switch enabled consumer electronic device (SED). In one embodiment, the SPS may receive a set of capabilities for a SED that includes at least a minimum, a maximum, and at least one other set of content characteristics. The SPS may associate the capability set with a device identifier that uniquely identifies the SED. When a request for content is received, the SPS examines the request to determine if it valid and authorized. If the request is valid and authorized, the SPS provides content transcoded based on the capability set for the SED, where the SPS provides the content as much as possible to satisfy the SED's best quality set of content characteristics, but at least within the SED's minimum/maximum sets of content characteristics.

  • Patent number: 8279101
Abstract: High conversion rates are achieved in an analog to digital converter by tailoring the substrate type to specific operational elements of the converter. Embodiments place sample and hold processing circuitry on a substrate type having properties that allow for faster processing at high sampling/clock frequencies. Other operational elements of the converter are constructed on at least one other substrate type in keeping with the remainder of the circuitry for which the converter is being implemented. The sample and hold substrate may be implemented on any material which is capable of faster processing, such as silicon germanium, gallium arsenide, silicon bipolar, BiCMOS, and the like. Other portions may be implemented on a more CMOS substrate. Such systems and methods are able to implement analog-to digital conversion for broadband signals at high speeds without the need for extensive timing compensation, while also avoiding problems due to noise from further digital processing circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20120236973
Abstract: A system for synchronizing a receiver of a bit stream to the bit stream include a correlator to remove the PN code modulation and to generate a stream of time sequence values (samples) from the received bits. Multiple accumulators are included, each accumulator corresponding to a different offset from a first time period. The accumulators add a number of values equal to a number of samples in a bit period. Multiple magnitude calculators receive sums from the corresponding accumulators and calculates respective magnitudes. Multiple non-coherent summers are then used to add the magnitudes for each offset in each bit period for all of the received bits. The outputs of the non-coherent summers are analyzed to find the highest value, to identify the location of the bit transition in the bit period.

Abstract: Techniques for modifying data of an image that can be implemented in a digital camera, video image capturing device and other optical systems are provided to correct for non-uniform illumination appearing in data obtained using one or more illumination sources from a two-dimensional photo-sensor. In order to correct for these variations, a small amount of modification data is stored in a small memory within the optical system. According to a specific embodiment, non-uniform illumination correction factors are derived during a calibration procedure by illuminating a surface having uniform optical properties with the non-uniform illumination source and imaging that illuminated surface onto the photo-sensor.

  • Publication number: 20120212278
Abstract: A digital level control circuit, such as an Automatic Gain Control, includes a plurality of digitally selectable signal levels with transitions between levels gradually varied to avoid signal output level discontinuities. An up/down counter may be used to incrementally stepwise transition an output signal between the digitally selectable output levels. Stepwise application of a control signal to the appropriate switching elements (e.g., FETs) forming an attenuator circuit may be implemented to moderate a switching time of the switching elements to provide a more gradual transition between element operating states. A deglitch circuit may be employed to latch the switching elements to achieve the desired state at the end of a desired switching transition period.

  • Patent number: 8237816
Abstract: A digital camera captures successive first and second images using an image sensor to produce image data, and processes the image data of the successive first and second images. The processing of the second image overlaps processing of the first image in time. The processing of the two images includes mapping locations in a virtual memory space to locations in the memory pages in a physical memory space of the digital camera, and storing information corresponding to the mapped locations in a page table. The digital camera performs operations on the image data of the first and second images stored at specified locations in the virtual memory space, and while performing those operations allocates and de-allocates memory pages in the physical memory space to virtual memory pages in the virtual memory space and updates the page table accordingly.
