Abstract: A method of testing for the presence of dibromonitrilopropionamide in a sample, which comprises adding to the sample, under alkaline conditions and in the presence of magnesium ions, a phenolic or anilinic compound that generates a colour; and observing the resultant colour. The appropriate reagents may be formulated as a kit, e.g. using pyrocatechol as the phenolic compound.
Abstract: An aqueous sample containing methylenebisthiocyanate or another compound capable of releasing an aldehyde is assayed by determining the amount of aldehyde released by conversion with respect to a sample from which existing aldehydes have been separated. An aqueous sample containing glutaraldehyde or another aldehyde which having at least 2 C atoms is assayed by adding an agent which gives a water-insoluble complex, and determining the amount of complex or, after regeneration, the aldehyde.
