  • Patent number: 9879578
Abstract: The combination of a gas-pressure-driven pump jet nozzle or alternatively Coanda effect nozzle with an impactor nozzle(s) in an air-oil separator for separating oil from blow-by gasses from a crankcase of an internal combustion engine, or for separating liquid aerosol from gas, in general. Such combination enhances impaction efficiency and enables operation at higher pressure differentials (or pressure drop) (“dP”) without causing excessive backpressure in the air-oil separator.

  • Publication number: 20180001238
Abstract: A replacement filter element having a removable pin attached to the filter element is described. The removable pin is attached to the filter element via a first interference fit. When the replacement filter element is installed into a filtration system having a drain valve with an internal draft, the removable pin seals onto the drain valve and forms a second interference fit between the drain valve and the pin. The pin seals an opening in the drain valve. The second interference fit is stronger than the first interference. Accordingly, when the replacement filter element is removed from the filter housing (e.g., during a service event of the replacement filter element), the pin detaches from the replacement filter element and remains positioned within the drain valve thereby preventing fluid from leaking from the housing when the filter element is removed. The pin permanently plugs the drain valve once installed.

  • Publication number: 20170361250
Abstract: A filtration apparatus comprises a housing defining an internal volume sized to receive a filter element, an inlet for receiving a fluid and an outlet for expelling the fluid. A retention mechanism is disposed in the housing having a ball plug operatively connected thereto and selectively displaceable in an axial direction relative to the housing. An engagement member is disposed within the housing and comprises a port having an opening and a ramp. A portion of the port is disposed within the outlet. The ball plug is movable between a first position, in which the ball plug rests on the ramp, does not seal the opening of the port and fluid can be expelled from the housing port, and a second position in which the ball plug is aligned with the port, the ball plug seals the opening of the port and the fluid cannot be expelled from the outlet.

  • Publication number: 20170335812
Abstract: Fuel filtration systems having an automatic drain assembly for water that accumulates in the filter housing are described. The filtration system includes a filter media that is configured to remove particulate matter and dispersed water contained within the fuel. The water is drained to a drain reservoir within the filter housing where the water collects. When the water reaches a threshold level, a controller initiates a warning to the engine operator, such as a dashboard light, that instructs the operator to shut the engine off. When the engine is shut off, the collected water is drained through a valve of the automatic drain assembly. In some arrangements, the automatic drain assembly can be retrofitted to existing fuel filtration systems thereby reducing the cost of fitting the automatic drain assembly to existing internal combustion engines.

  • Patent number: 9822741
Abstract: Air induction systems are for an internal combustion engine. The air induction systems comprise an air intake plenum that conducts intake airflow to an air cleaner for cleaning prior to combustion in the internal combustion engine. The air intake plenum is movable with respect to the air cleaner between an open position separated from the air cleaner and a closed position connected to the air cleaner. A bellows connects the air intake plenum to the air cleaner when the air intake plenum is in the closed position. The bellows has an upstream first end that seals with the air intake plenum and a downstream second end that seals with the air cleaner.

  • Publication number: 20170304750
Abstract: A Spin-on filter assembly that can be used with both suction-side and pressure-side filtration systems is described. The filter assembly screws onto a filter mounting head. The filter mounting head is part of a filtration system that provides fluid to be filtered to the filter assembly. The filter assembly filters the fluid to be filtered through a filter media contained within the filter assembly and provides the filtered fluid back to the filter mounting head. The filter assembly includes an upper seal that seals the clean side of the filter media from the dirty side of the filter media when the filter assembly is connected to the filter mounting head in an installed position. The upper seal includes a sealing ridge that has an elongated shape and is flexible such that the filter assembly can be used on both pressure-side and suction side applications in filtration systems.
