Patent number: 5873578Abstract: A gasket has a flat body with openings provided for combustion chambers, lubricating fluid passages, engine coolant passages, and studs mounting a cylinder head on an engine block. Each of the combustion chamber openings is bordered by a sealing element defining an armor ring. Each armor ring has a tab located on its outer edge, extending over at least part of its periphery, attached to the gasket body enabling the armor ring to move perpendicularly to and/or in the plane of the gasket body.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Curty Payen S.A.Inventor: Gerard Jargeaix

Patent number: 5685547Abstract: An engine gasket is formed as a thin sheet of durable material having front and back faces and formed with an array of throughgoing holes and with surface formations projecting at most to a plane parallel to the front face. According to this invention the gasket is formed with fragile crushable spacer bosses projecting from the front face past the plane so that when a plurality of such gaskets are stacked the bosses will hold them substantially out of contact with each other except at the bosses.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1995Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Curty Payen S.A.Inventor: Gerard Jargeaix

Patent number: 5681048Abstract: A flat sealing gasket has a metallic core plate lying generally in a plane, having a pair of opposite faces, and formed with at least one throughgoing hole and unitarily formed offset from the hole with an array of rigid abutments projecting beyond the faces. A bead of elastomeric material is provided on each of the faces around the hole and a layer of filler material is integrally joined to the bead and embedding the abutments. A grooved metallic ring surrounds the hole.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: Curty Payen S.A.Inventor: Tanguy Tronel

Patent number: 5033189Abstract: A process for making gaskets consists in forming, in the body, holes regularly distributed along each line intended to receive a sealing element, in effecting, by stamping, the formation of a groove along each line intended to receive a sealing element, and in effecting the molding of sealing elements in each groove which the body comprises.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1990Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Curty S.A.Inventors: Jean G. Desverchere, Francisque M. Thiaullier

Patent number: 4856796Abstract: A cylinder-head gasket comprises a metal core plate having two faces and formed with a plurality of cylinder holes, an annular groove of a predetermined depth around each cylinder hole on one of the plate faces, a plurality of stud holes, and a plurality of lubricant/coolant holes. This plate is normally made of stainless steel, a specialty steel, or a steel with a special surface treatment or coating. A resilient seal normally made of a fluorocarbon or silicone is provided on each of the core-plate faces around the lubricant/coolant holes. A cylinder plate of a thickness greater than the groove depth forms respective cylinder rings of the plate thickness sitting in the grooves around each of the cylinder holes. This cylinder plate is normally of a stainless or specialty steel also.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: CurtyInventor: Bernard C. Genin

Patent number: 4635949Abstract: A cylinder-head gasket has a sheet formed of a rigid organic and substantially nonthermoplastic material such as phenylene polysulfide that does not soften at engine-operating temperatures of 130.degree. C.-150.degree. C. The sheet has a plurality of gas-passage holes and liquid-passage holes. Respective elastomeric seals are secured to the edges of the liquid-passage holes and respective metallic seal rings are secured to the edges of the gas-passage holes.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1981Date of Patent: January 13, 1987Assignee: Societe Anonyme CurtyInventors: Jacques D. Patent number: 4620710Abstract: A cylinder head gasket for an automotive vehicle has its fire ring constituting a principal part of the gasket attached at spaced apart locations to a pair of lateral parts onto which respective elastomeric seals can be molded independently.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1985Date of Patent: November 4, 1986Assignee: CurtyInventors: Georges Lambert, Guy Ferre
-
Patent number: 4468044Abstract: A cylinder head gasket for internal combustion engines has all-metal composite refractory seal around each of the cylinder openings and elastomeric seals around each of the liquid passages, the latter being symetrically disposed on opposite sides of the central plate. The refractory seals comprise ribbed sheet metal members disposed symetrically and having perimeters extending inwardly at each cylinder opening, and cover members reaching from one side and the other over the perimeters.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1983Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Societe Anonyme dite: CurtyInventors: Georges Ulmer, Bernard C. D. Genin
-
Patent number: 4462615Abstract: A cylinder head gasket has outwardly open grooves formed in the compressible refractory body around the fluid passages to be sealed and sealing strips received in the grooves so that webs of the strips lying along the bottoms of the grooves are set back from the faces of the gasket while wings of the strips overhang these faces adjoining the grooves.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1983Date of Patent: July 31, 1984Assignee: Societe Anonyme Dite: CurtyInventors: Georges Ulmer, Bernard C. D. Genin

Patent number: 4330585Abstract: A cylinder-head gasket has an elongated compressible heat-resistant sheet having a longitudinally extending succession of circular cylinder holes. Respective U-section sheet-metal rings are gripped over the edges of these holes on the sheet. Respective sections of reinforcement material are engaged between these rings and the sheet in a longitudinally extending central region of the sheet that has a width smaller than the diameter of the cylinder holes. The reinforcement material is different from the sheet metal of the rings and is heat resistant.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1980Date of Patent: May 18, 1982Assignee: Curty, Societe AnonymeInventors: Pierre Eyrard, Jean-Paul Poquet
