Patent number: 6295522Abstract: A system and method for the use of stored value cards when either a consumer or a merchant does not possess a stored value card. A consumer value acquirer receives funds from the bank account of a given consumer. The consumer value acquirer also has a pool of stored value cards that are not assigned to any specific consumer but which are used on behalf of consumers wishing to purchase goods or services via stored value card transaction. The consumer value acquirer acts as a proxy for the consumer and uses one of the pool of stored value cards on behalf of the consumer in a transaction with a merchant that uses stored value cards. Once funds stored value card funds are transferred to the merchant during a transaction, the consumer account with the consumer value acquirer is debited the amount of the transaction.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1997Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: CyberCash, Inc.Inventor: Brian P. Patent number: 6205433Abstract: A system and method for determining approval of a multi-currency transaction between a customer and a merchant over a network. The system includes a customer computer which is connected to a communication network, a merchant computer which is connected to the communication network, and a server connected to both the customer computer via the communication network and to the merchant computer via the communication network. The customer computer includes a first set of data which contains an amount the customer is willing to pay the merchant for a product in a first currency. The merchant computer includes a second set of data which contains a product price at which the merchant agrees to sell the product in a second currency. The server receives the first set of data and the second set of data. The server then converts the amount in the first currency into a converted amount in the second currency.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: CyberCash, Inc.Inventors: Brian Paul Boesch, Stephen David Crocker, Donald Eggleston Eastlake, III, Alden Sherburne Hart, Jr., Andrew Jackson, Robert A. Patent number: 6125185Abstract: A method to balance or level processor computational load during the generation of random symmetric DES type keys and RSA type public key encryption, whereby the DES type keys are pre-generated and pre-encrypted for known and expected receivers, and stored for immediate access during time-critical on-line communication between the sender and receiver. A method for authentication using the sender's RSA public key is also disclosed whereby the sender's authenticating signature is pre-generated and stored with the pre-generated and pre-encrypted DES keys.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1997Date of Patent: September 26, 2000Assignee: CyberCash, Inc.Inventor: Brian P. Patent number: 6092053Abstract: A system and method for merchant invoked electronic commerce allowing consumers to purchase items over a network and merchants to receive payment information relating to the purchases. The system includes a server having software which gathers the purchasing information from a consumer to complete a purchasing transaction over a network. The system has a consumer data structure that stores purchasing information for registered consumers. The software is able to access the consumer data structure and enter the consumer's purchasing information during subsequent purchases. Having the software obtain and enter the consumer's purchasing information, the consumer does not have to enter the same information every time they purchase an item over the network. In alternate embodiments, the same technology can be applied to other arenas where a user may have to enter the same repetitive information.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Cybercash, Inc.Inventors: Brian Boesch, Patrick Farrell, Elliott Light, R. Patent number: 6073237Abstract: A method for securing data in a tamper resistant fashion on a computer connected to a network. The presence of a user on a network is established using one protocol with routine operations conducted by the user on the network using a second protocol. Public and private key encryption is used to establish the validity of both the user and the server on the network user on the network. Keys are passed only after verification of the authenticity of the user on the network.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1997Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: CyberCash, Inc.Inventor: Carl Ellison

Patent number: 5870473Abstract: A system and method relating to secure communications in a communication network is disclosed. The invention uses sessions having limited duration to enable parties to communicate securely in the communication network. The session of one party is independent from the session of another party. The sessions are linked at a server which confirms that the sessions are valid. In a preferred embodiment, the secure communications occur in an electronic transfer system. In the electronic transfer system, a customer and a merchant can conduct a transaction wherein the customer can purchase a product from the merchant and pay for the product using electronic funds.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1995Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: CyberCash, Inc.Inventors: Brian Paul Boesch, Stephen David Crocker, Donald Eggleston Eastlake, III, Alden Sherburne Hart, Jr., Robert A.
