Patents Assigned to Cygnus Therapeutic Systems
  • Patent number: 5115805
Abstract: A method for enhancing the permeability of the skin or other biological membrane to a material such as a drug is disclosed. In the method, the drug is delivered in conjunction with ultrasound having a frequency of above about 10 MHz. The method may also be used in conjunction with chemical permeation enhancers and/or with iontophoresis.

  • Patent number: 5091186
Abstract: A transdermal drug delivery system in which drug delivery is biphasic is provided. Drug is delivered at a therapeutically effective rate during an initial, delivery phase, typically of about 10 to 14 hours, followed by a subsequent, secondary phase during which virtually no drug is delivered. Substantially all of the drug initially loaded into the device is delivered within the initial, delivery phase.

  • Patent number: 5069909
Abstract: Method and laminated composite for administering buprenorphine transdermally to treat pain. The composite comprises an impermeable backing layer and a reservoir layer containing buprenorphine and optionally a permeation enhancer combined with a pressure-sensitive adhesive with the amounts of buprenorphine and optional enhancer being sufficient to cause the buprenorphine to pass through the skin at a rate in excess of about 0.05 mcg/cm.sup.2 /hr.

  • Patent number: 5059426
Abstract: Skin permeation enhancer compositions are provided which increase the permeability of skin to transdermally administered pharmacologically active agents. The composition contains diethylene glycol monoethyl or monomethyl ether in addition to an ester component such as propylene glycol monolaurate, methyl laurate or the like. The compositions are particularly useful in conjunction with the transdermal administration of steroid drugs such as progestogens and estrogens. Methods and drug delivery systems for using the enhancer compositions are provided as well.
