  • Patent number: 4764738
Abstract: An agile beam control for optical phased array wherein a great multiplicity of substantially identical wave guides are employed, each of which comprises a plurality of electrodes along the length thereof, and wherein electrical voltages are applied to such electrodes in a predetermined pattern so as to effect the necessary control without creating a totally unworkable arrangement of different voltages and wiring arrangements which are intolerable. More specifically, a binary voltage distribution is provided to such electrodes, whereby alternate ones of the electrodes in a first electrode position of such wave guides are interconnected and have a given voltage applied thereto. The remaining electrodes at that position are energized with the same magnitude of voltage but of reverse polarity.

  • Patent number: 4698493
Abstract: An optical distance measuring system which utilizes binocular optics with a mosaic sensor to simulate stereo imaging so that distance can be determined by noting the apparent displacement between left and right images in the stereo pair. The binocular optics comprise spaced shutter mechanisms which are alternatively actuated, the first such image information on the sensor being stored for ultimate comparison with information from the sensor as obtained through the other shutter mechanism, such compared information enabling distance or depth to be determined through the use of appropriate mathematical equations.

  • Patent number: 4639774
Abstract: A system comprising a scanning detector for rapidly scanning a field of view through appropriate optical means, and with a linear infrared detector array, there being electronic apparatus for converting the detector signals to digital signals and for storing such information for comparison with like information from another or many additional scans. The system further includes electronic apparatus for processing such detector signals from a first scan as well as from second or succeeding scans to determine the amount of misalignment between the frames of such scans to develop a correction signal which is applied to adjustment apparatus to correct such misalignment to insure that the frames of succeeding scans are accurately aligned with frames from previous scans.
