Abstract: There is provided a method for inhibiting ATF/CREB and cancer cell growth using disulfiram, administered in combination with heavy metals. It was found that disulfiram disrupts transcription factor DNA binding by forming mixed disulfides with thiols within the DNA-binding region, and that this process is facilitated by metal ions. Disulfiram administered to melanoma cells in combination with copper (II) or zinc(II) decreased expression of cyclin A, reduced proliferation in vitro, and inhibited growth of melanoma cells. The combination of oral zinc gluconate and disulfiram at currently approved doses for alcoholism stabilized tumor growth in two of three patients with Stage IV metastatic melanoma, with 12 and 17 month survivals, respectively, to date, and produced a >50% reduction in hepatic metastases in one individual.

Abstract: A storage and carrying case includes semi-rigid spaced end panels and a semi-rigid bottom panel all joined together by means of a fabric over layer and a fabric under layer which are stitched together by a binding which also connects to front and back panels to form an enclosure for tools or the like. A single binding may thus be utilized to join all of the flexible fabric materials which retain the semi-rigid or rigid panels forming the enclosure.
Abstract: A method for preparing cross-linked collagen and cross-linked collagen products. The method includes incubating collagen in a solution including water, at least one polar solvent and at least one sugar, to form cross-linked collagen. The solution may include a buffer having a suitable pH and ionic strength. The method may include removing excess unreacted sugar(s) and polar solvent(s) by washing the cross-linked collagen or by other methods. The method may also include dehydrating the cross-linked collagen, and may include subjecting the cross-linked collagen to critical point drying, or subjecting the collagen to drying or freeze-drying prior to cross-linking. The collagen may be prepared from atelopeptide collagen to reduce antigenicity, but may also be prepared from other suitable collagen types. The concentration and type of the polar solvent(s), the concentration and type of the reducing sugar(s), and the incubation duration may be varied to control the degree of cross-linking.

Abstract: A device is shown for transporting asphalt repair materials for use in repairing potholes in asphalt pavements. The device has a body with a hopper compartment for transporting and dispensing asphalt mix materials. A dry, radiant heat source is located in a heating chamber below the hopper compartment and heats the asphalt mix. Exhaust stacks in communication with the dry heat means have a damper system for retaining heat within the heating chamber, the damper system being electronically controlled in response to the temperature within the body of the device.
Abstract: Selected bis-amino acid hydroxyethylamino sulfonamide compounds are effective as retroviral protease inhibitors, and in particular as inhibitors of HIV protease. The present invention relates to such retroviral protease inhibitors and, more particularly, relates to selected novel compounds, composition and method for inhibiting retroviral proteases, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease prophylactically preventing retroviral infection or the spread of a retrovirus, and treatment of a retroviral infection.

Abstract: A robust wireless communications system operable to provide communications for mobile wireless devices. The wireless communications system generally includes a management computing system, wireless infrastructure, and mobile wireless devices. The wireless infrastructure includes wireless infrastructure devices having processing and storage capability. Similarly, the mobile wireless devices include processing and storage capability. Communication links between the management computing system and wireless infrastructure, and wireless infrastructure and mobile wireless devices are utilized to downlink and uplink data. In operation, data generated at the management computing system may be downloaded to the wireless infrastructure and mobile wireless devices sequentially without active simultaneous communication links. Similarly, data generated at the mobile wireless devices may be uploaded to the wireless infrastructure and management computing system without active simultaneous communication links.

Abstract: The invention is to provide a method for increasing the transmit and receive efficiency of an embedded Ethernet controller, which is applicable to an embedded Ethernet controller connected with a local area network and a wide area network respectively for handling packet processing by utilizing a direct memory access structure via an independent data bus, the said method includes the steps of mapping each said receive buffer into a plurality of fixed size packet storage spaces each providing individually separated memory spaces in four-byte alignment to store packet header, packet CRC and packet data, as well as mapping a surplus memory space from a preceding packet, such that it is only necessary to move and change the packet header in the receive packet and then insert a required protocol header into the said surplus memory space to convert the receive packet into a transmit packet.
Abstract: A device is proposed to symmetrize the radiation from one or from several linear optical emitters. The device possesses per emitter 1, 1a, 1b a cylindrical lens optical unit 2, 2a, 2b with one or more cylindrical lenses, which collimate each light beam in the y-direction, where by rotating at least one of the cylindrical lenses around the z-axis or by providing a discontinuous diffracting element, each light beam is diffracted at a different diffraction angle in the y-direction. The device additionally contains a director-collimator optical unit 3, which collimates each light beam in the x-direction and diffracts at different diffraction angles so that the main beams of the individual light beams in the x-direction converge at a specified distance from the emitter and run parallel in the y-direction. Finally, the device has a redirecting optical unit 4 which compensates for the diffraction of the light beam in the x-direction caused by the director-collimator optical unit 3.
Abstract: A chain joint for a high-strength link chain is disclosed. The chain joint is formed from two joint parts form-fittingly connected with one another and a center piece braced on the two opposing longitudinal side bars of joint parts. The center piece is detachably disposed with respect to the joint parts. The center piece is formed from a fitting plug and at least one fitting element indicating the specified set-in position of the fitting plug based on resilient material properties. The fitting element serves a fitting sleeve, into which the fitting plug can be set and in which the fitting plug is at least predominantly enclosed.
