Patent number: 5835384Abstract: A system and method for producing quality control evaluation information for each instrument in a large group of instruments making up a peer group which periodically (such as daily) run a set of control samples from a common lot of control materials. The control data from all instruments is reported electronically to a central station which collects all of the data and stores it along with identification information. The central station selects a golden peer group of the instruments which meet certain minimum operating criteria, and determines control targets from the golden peer group using techniques which assure horizontal and vertical robustness, so as to eliminate the need for any manual editing of the control data. A concordance correlation coefficient is determined for each instrument against the control targets, with the CCC covering an interval (such as a month).Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventor: Lawrence I-kuei Lin

Patent number: 5827744Abstract: A method for cleaning a liquid sample probe in which the probe is positioned within a washing chamber inside a wash body and a purging liquid solution is pumped through the probe into the chamber. A cleaning liquid solution may also be pumped into the chamber around the probe. Either or both liquids are subsequently vacuumed from the chamber drawing air through an annular gap between the probe and the wash body thereby creating a cleaning air flow between the exterior probe surface and the wash body. The cleaning air flow removes all cleaning liquid solution and/or purging liquid solution as the probe is removed from the wash body.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1997Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventors: James Brian Fose, Ching-Cherng Lee, John Paul Mizzer

Patent number: 5813759Abstract: A vortex mixer which engages and produces a vortex mixing of a liquid within a liquid container by means of centrifugally activated swing-cams. A pair of vertical swing-cams acts to engage the container to the mixer and a horizontal swing-cam provides circular movement to the lower portion of the container. The upper portion of the container is slideably supported so that the container rotates in reaction to the vortex mixing action and thereby produces shear mixing of the liquid.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1996Date of Patent: September 29, 1998Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventor: Peter Louis Gebrian

Patent number: 5776784Abstract: Assays for separating magnetic particles include separating magnetically responsive particles from a liquid dispersion disposed in a plurality of reaction vessels, and transporting the reaction vessels in sequence past at least one processing position. A robotics reagent arm and probe dispense reagents into the reaction vessels and a reaction monitoring device is capable of relative movement with respect to the transporting device. Incomplete separation is effected by positioning a magnetic field in contact with the reaction vessel for a first shortened time interval during which the particles partially aggregate and afterwards are removed from the reaction vessel. The magnet is repositioned in contact with the reaction vessel for a third time interval to achieve full separation of particles from the liquid.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventors: Joseph Edward Kegelman, Diane Kathleen Stille, Robert Kyle Wiedenmann, Paul John Zuk

Patent number: 5766872Abstract: A method for increasing the accuracy of photometric-based assays for .alpha.-amylase by subjecting a sample to a secondary interrogating beam of radiation at a wavelength distinguishable from a primary interrogating beam of radiation. The secondary interrogating beam of radiation is indicative of an interfering reaction occurring in the absence of analyte at the primary wavelength. The secondary wavelength is outside the absorption spectrum of the analyte of interest. This secondary radiation beam's absorption is proportional to the interfering reaction at the primary wavelength.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1995Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventor: Raymond Leon Cybulski

Patent number: 5702912Abstract: The present invention relates to a method to determine the concentration of anticoagulants as a function of the inhibition of thrombin formation in an assay mixture. The assay mixture is composed of two reagents and the diluted plasma sample. The diluted plasma sample containing an anticoagulatory substance is mixed with a clotting factor reagent, which is a combination of an excess amount of purified coagulation factors of the endogenous system, phospholipids and a weak thrombin inhibitor, which can be potentiated by an anticoagulatory substance. Then a coagulation cascade activator and calcium chloride, an activator reagent, is added to the mixture and formed thrombin is measured after a chosen incubation time. A proportionality between the inhibition of the thrombin formation and the anticoagulatory active components allows for a determination of the concentration of anticoagulatory active components in the sample.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1995Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: Dade International Inc.Inventors: Hendrick Coenraad Hemker, Robert Johan Wagenvoord, Hans-Jurgen Kolde
