  • Patent number: 5634227
Abstract: A washing-time compensating method compensates for the washing time of a washing machine according to a water supply time during executing a washing operation. After setting a speculative total washing time required for the washing in accordance with a program internally stored in terms of a washing condition set by a user, a quantity of water supplied up to a predetermined water level within a washtub is sensed to calculate a total water supply time according to the number of supplying the water throughout overall washing procedure. The calculated total water supply time is compared with the speculative total water supply time set in the initial stage to calculate an additional water supply time, so that the washing operation is performed for the washing time obtained by compensating for the total washing time to timely carry out the washing operation within the set washing time.

  • Patent number: 5635986
Abstract: A method for encoding a contour of an object predicts a current contour by using a current and a reconstructed previous contours and generates the motion vector representing a displacement between the reconstructed previous and the predicted current contours. A matched contour between the predicted current and the current contours is subtracted from the current contour to provide a differential contour. Thereafter, vertex points is determined based on a polygonal approximation for the differential contour. A set of approximation errors calculated at a predetermined number of sample points on each line segment between two vertex points is transformed and quantized to obtain a set of quantized discrete sine transform coefficients. The quantized discrete sine transform coefficients are encoded together with the motion vector, and the vertex points are encoded based on the predicted current contour for transmission thereof.

  • Patent number: 5632920
Abstract: Disclosed is a method capable of controlling read-time of a humidity sensor of a microwave oven so as to void interference by other parts in the microwave oven or exterior apparatuses, and thereby sensing an accurate humidity value in the microwave oven. In the method, one period of a frequency of an electric power is divided into a first section and a second section according to an outer interrupt signal. The humidities are sensed by predetermined times respectively in the first section and the second section, and then a noise count is increased in a corresponding section when a difference between a maximum value and a minimum value in each section is larger than a predetermined reference value. The obtained noise counts are compared, and then one section having less noise count is determined as a humidity sensing read time section.

  • Patent number: 5632784
Abstract: A method of predischarging a novel battery wherein a stable lithiated film is formed at an anode by a small amount of the discharged capacity in order to rapidly recover the open circuit voltage of the battery, is disclosed. The battery includes a cathode using lithium metal as an active material, an anode using manganese dioxide as a main component of an active material, and an electrolyte including an inorganic electrolyte dissolved in a nonaqueous solvent containing at least propylene carbonate. The battery is predischarged by using a pulse current. The amount of discharge is not more than about 2% of the total discharge capacity. A lithiated film which is formed at the anode portion while being partially oxidized to lithium ions, is uniformed. By a small amount of the discharged capacity, a high potential portion can be removed and the gas generation reaction can be suppressed. In addition, the life of the battery is lengthened and the flatness of the battery's voltage is improved.
