    Abstract: The system and method of the present application improves the efficiency of systems utilizing spiral membranes but can also be applied to systems using other types of membranes. The membrane vessels and membranes are configured in a vertical orientation and a clear path is provided for the removal of product and cleaning chemicals on the retentate and permeate sides of the membrane with little or no dilution.
