Patent number: 7032710Abstract: An anchoring system includes an anchor member to anchor the lifeline and at least one extending unit to extend the anchor member out to a working position beyond (horizontally) and above (vertically) an edge to provide for an overhead anchoring point. The anchoring system preferably further includes a support to which the extending unit is attached. The support immobilizes the overhead anchoring system so that the anchor member remains at the working position (even in the case of a fall by the worker). A method of anchoring a fall protection lifeline for use by a worker working at or beyond an edge includes the steps: elevating an anchor member to position the lifeline above the head of a worker and supporting the anchor member at the working position. The method can also include the step of extending the anchor member to a working position horizontally beyond and above the edge.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2002Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Fall Protection, Inc.Inventors: Preston L. Anderson, Ronald W. Adams, Steve D. Spotts, Michael J. Gaydos

Patent number: 7025171Abstract: A safety harness comprises a strap portion for extending over a portion a the person's body to retain the person within the safety harness. The strap portion is fabricated from a flexible material having an elastic extension in the range of approximately 3 to approximately 15% under a tensile load of approximately 10 pounds. The material of the strap portion also preferably has ultimate tensile load of at least approximately 5,000 lbs. A safety harness to be worn by a person to protect the person at a height, at least a section of a shoulder strap of the safety harness comprises a single strap having elastic extension to enable free movement of a person in the safety harness, the elastic extension of the strap being limited to prevent separation of a person from the safety harness.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2002Date of Patent: April 11, 2006Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Fall Protection, Inc.Inventor: Ronald J. Patent number: 6739427Abstract: A safety harness to be worn by a person includes a strap portion for extending over a portion of the person's body to retain the person within the safety harness. At least a section of the strap portion includes an outer shell of a high strength, flexible material. The outer shell has a channel therein. The outer shell can, for example, have a tubular construction. The strap portion further includes a flexible inner member within the channel of the outer shell. The flexible inner member generally prevents the lateral edges of the strap portion from forming a sharp edge when under tension. In that regard, the lateral edges of the strap portion preferably remain blunted, arced or rounded rather than forming a sharp edge when the strap portion is under tension forces experienced in normal use of the safety harness. The rounded or blunted lateral edges of the strap portion reduce or eliminate the binding, pinching and chaffing common with currently available safety harnesses.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2001Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Fall Protection Investment, Inc.Inventor: Joseph F. Patent number: 6722470Abstract: A system for anchoring a lifeline includes a support member for the lifeline. The support member includes a first connector to attach the support member to a first type of anchorage. The system preferably further includes at least one adapter having a second connector to attach the adapter to a second type of anchorage. The adapter includes an anchorage of the first type to which the support member can be attached.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Bacou-Dalloz Fall Protection Investment, Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey C. Patent number: 6527082Abstract: An attachment ring assembly comprises an attachment ring adapted to connect a safety harness to another object and a connecting member attached to the attachment ring. The connecting member is attached to the attachment ring to have a first end and a second end extending from the attachment ring. The attachment ring assembly further comprises a first attachment member attached to the first end of the connecting member. The first attachment member is adapted to be attachable to a first strap of the safety harness. The attachment ring assembly also comprises a second attachment member attached to the second end of the connecting member. The second attachment member is adapted to be attachable to a second strap of the safety harness. Preferably, the first attachment member and the second attachment member are adjustable in position after attachment to the first strap and the second strap, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1997Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Dalloz Fall Protection Investment, Inc.Inventor: Robert A. Patent number: 6019195Abstract: A fall prevention device for a vertical cable includes a body with a gutter for guiding the cable. The body supports a pin on which is articulated a lever one end of which ends in a cam which can clamp the cable against the bottom of the gutter and the other end of which is fastened to a ring. The cam is spring-loaded against the cable. A knurled wheel cooperating at all times with the cable rotates on a pin above the articulation axis of the lever. The ring has lateral teeth and is mounted to pivot on the lever so that, when the ring is pushed, the teeth can be caused to engage with the knurled wheel.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1999Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Dalloz Fall ProtectionInventor: Pierre-Georges Pelofi

Patent number: 6009977Abstract: Device for preventing a fall on a vertical cable, with a channel for guiding the cable, two flanges supporting an axle on which a lever is pivotally mounted, one extremity of the lever including an opening for fixing a link and at the other extremity, a cam which co-operates with the cable in the event that the user falls to block the device along the cable. The flanges are connected via a hinge so that the flanges can be pivoted with respect to each other and moved apart from each other for positioning the device on the cable and closed together whereby the cable is inserted in the channel, and a safety structure is provided to oppose opening of the flanges when the lever does not occupy an angular rest position in which the cam is spaced from the cable.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Assignee: Dalloz Fall ProtectionInventor: Pierre-Georges Pelofi
