  • Patent number: 7612481
Abstract: The invention provides a rotor for an electrical motor, e.g. a line-start motor. The rotor comprises a magnet located in a cavity in a rotor core. The core is laminated from sheets of magnetically conductive material and the magnet is secured in the cavity by an end plate which covers the end face. To avoid short circuiting of the magnet, an aperture is provided in the end plate such that a first portion of the opening into the cavity is in communication with the aperture and such that a remaining, second, portion of the cavity is covered by the end plate to secure the magnet in the cavity independently upon the orientation of the end plate around the center axis.

  • Publication number: 20090091200
Abstract: The invention provides an electrical line-start motor comprising with a stator and a squirrel cage rotor adapted for rotation around a centre axis. The rotor comprises a squirrel cage winding in which a current is induced by corresponding windings of the stator, and a set of permanent magnets. To protect the magnets from excessive heat, the rotor comprises thermal barriers e.g. in the form of cavities located between the squirrel cage winding of the rotor and the magnets. Due to the thermal barriers, the thermal conductivity in a path between the windings and the magnets are reduced and the magnets are protected.

  • Publication number: 20090093909
Abstract: A control system (12) for controlling a refrigeration system (17) comprising two or more compressors (13a, 13b) (e.g. a twin compressor system). Each compressor (13a, 13b) is connected to an electronic unit (14a, 14b), and the electronic units (14a, 14b) are adapted to communicate appropriate signals to each other when the corresponding compressor (13a, 13b) starts or stops operation. The electronics units (14a, 14b) are further adapted to control the operation of the corresponding compressor (13a, 13b) in response to a signal received from the other electronic unit (14a, 14b). Thereby the control system (12) is adapted to control the operation of the two or more compressors (13a, 13b) in a mutually dependent manner. When one compressor (13a, 13b) of a multi-compressor refrigeration system (17) stops operating, the remaining compressor(s) (13a, 13b) will build up a pressure difference between the pressure side and the suction side.

  • Patent number: 7514892
Abstract: A method and a control system for starting a motor (19), in particular a motor (19) for driving a compressor. The rotational speed (24) of the motor (19) is measured and compared to a minimum value. In the case that ?motor (24) is smaller than the minimum value after a predefined time interval has lapsed, the motor (19) is stopped, and the maximum current level to be supplied by the power source (18) is changed, preferably increased, before a new attempt to start the motor (19) is initiated. Preferably, the voltage (22) supplied to an electronic unit (21) is also measured, and in the case that it drops below a minimum voltage level, the motor (19) is stopped, and the maximum current level is changed, preferably decreased, before a new start attempt is initiated. It is possible to adjust the supplied current level in such a way that power is conserved while sufficient lubricated of the moving parts of the compressor is ensured.
