Patent number: 5529573Abstract: A continuous passive motion device comprises a leg support frame actuated by alternately, pneumatically inflating and deflating a bladder assembly. The assembly includes a series of interconnected bladders associated with a pump and a three-way solenoid valve, and provided with flaps secured at a common point which act as a hinge. The secured flaps force movement of the bladders in an arcuate path during inflation and deflation, providing an operating force against pivotal components of the device thus actuating it. A photointerrupter control device is provided that controls the angular limits of the desired therapy.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kevin A. Kelly, Marc D. Taylor, Robin L. Taylor

Patent number: 5417643Abstract: A continuous, passive motion device includes a chair to which a motivator assembly is attached for exercising the arm and shoulder of a patient seated therein. The assembly has two interconnected drive units, one of which provides elevation of the arm and the other its rotation when the arm is positioned in a connected pivotal orthosis. The drive units communicate with each other through a microcontroller programmable to avoid exercise physiologically incompatible with the patient's proper range of movement, thereby avoiding exercise-induced trauma.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1993Date of Patent: May 23, 1995Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventor: Marc D. Patent number: 5383919Abstract: A device is provided to enable simultaneous application of continuous passive motion therapy and thermal therapy. The device specifically provides an improved fluid transfer pad having a first membrane in a sealed cooperation with a second membrane to form a fluid receiving cavity, and the device having a fluid conduit means comprising an inlet conduit and an outlet conduit. The device further includes an internal reinforcement which telescopes within the fluid inlet conduit and extends beyond the inlet conduit into the fluid containing cavity. The internal reinforcement is lobed to form open flow surfaces or alternatively, is a spiral cut tube which allows an enlarged area of fluid diffusion.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1993Date of Patent: January 24, 1995Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kevin A. Kelly, Roman Szpur

Patent number: 5115806Abstract: A continuous passive motion device is provided which imparts a reciprocating spiral motion to one or more fingers of a user. The device can also be adapted for use with a thumb. The motion is achieved by linking a rotary motion of the device to a linear motion with respect to the device of a linear actuator.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1990Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventors: William Greuloch, Dan Shamir, Mark W. Patent number: 4962756Abstract: A portable CPM machine is presented for causing controlled continuous passive motion of one or more of the digits of a patient's hand. The device is mounted on the dorsal surface of the hand for motion of the four fingers and is mounted on the palmar aspect of the forearm for motion of the thumb. The thumb use is independent of finger use in that the device is mounted in a different location and the axis of rotation is about a line which is perpendicular to the frontal or sagittal plane of the forearm. The mounting for use with the thumb has the device mounted on the palmar surface of the forearm parallel to the longitudinal axis of the forearm. In both instances, the device is supported by a splint on the user's hand which extends along the forearm. The device has a housing with an actuating mechanism located within the housing.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1989Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventors: Dan Shamir, Mark W. Patent number: 4947862Abstract: An analyzer determines the amount of body fat on a patient by using a measurement of body impedence is based upon the nature of the conduction of an applied electrical current in the human body. The analyzer has a constant current source circuit for inducing a high frequency low-voltage signal in the body, and magnitude and phase detection circuits for measuring the magnitude and phase shift of the induced signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1988Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventor: Kevin A. Patent number: 4651719Abstract: A lightweight portable device is provided to impart continuous passive motion to a user's shoulder. The device causes abduction and adduction and has the option of causing simultaneous rotation as well through use of a single actuator. The base of the device is curved to fit against a lateral portion of the user's torso and the device is held in position by a harness. An upper arm support is pivotally connected to and extends laterally from the base. A linear actuator extends between and is linked to the upper arm support and the base to cause abduction and adduction of the arm. A forearm support which is pivotally connected to the upper arm support and is also angularly adjustable relative to the upper arm support is linked to the base to cause rotation of the forearm support as the upper arm support is pivoted. The range of rotation can be varied or eliminated. The degree and speed of abduction and adduction can also be varied.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1985Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: Danninger Medical Technology, Inc.Inventors: Daniel A.
