Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for microprocessor controlled storage and dialing of telephone numbers and storage and access of associated data. Each entry includes a telephone number field and an associated data field. The two fields are differently encoded and thus enhance the storage efficiency by avoiding a requirement for field terminating characters. An operator provides particular entries which are matched with stored fields of associated data. Upon determining a match, the stored associated data is displayed and the associated telephone number may be automatically dialed. A three chip microprocessor set scans a keyboard, controls displays, and communicates with program and data storage units. The microprocessor is used in conjunction with integrated circuitry to detect the existence of a dial tone for a predetermined time. Multifrequency or pulse dialing of a number from storage may be effected by the inventive dialer.
Abstract: For use in a telephone repertory dialer in which telephone number data is stored on a magnetic recording surface, logic circuitry for entry of telephone number data onto the recording surface or for readout of data from the recording surface for dialing out a telephone number. The logic includes an electronic memory for storing a single telephone number and through which all telephone number data is conveyed for both recording and readout.
Abstract: A telephone repertory dialer having a manually actuable mechanism mechanically operative for providing relative motion between a magnetic head and a magnetic recording surface. An elongated tape includes a magnetic recording surface and an opposite visual writing surface, the tape being carried by a transport mechanism manually movable to selected positions at which telephone number data is to be recorded or read out. Upon manual actuation of a control button the magnetic head is moved to a start position and then is caused to return at a controlled uniform rate to a home position during which return motion telephone number data is recorded or read out via the magnetic head in accordance with a selected recording or playback mode.
