Patent number: 8078200Abstract: A method and system for controlling the use of a short message service in a telecommunication system that includes a telecommunication network, a terminal device by which a subscriber is connected to the network, a mobile services switching center connected to the network, a gateway connected to the network, a short message service center connected to the gateway, and a database (DB) connected to or associated with the gateway. A short message sent by an originating subscriber is checked as to whether the short message is among those deemed non-allowed. Forwardable short messages are directed to the gateway, from which the database is queried to determine whether the originating subscriber is permitted the short message to the intended recipient or, alternatively, whether the message should been blocked based on predetermined criteria.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2006Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventor: Sami Ala-Luukko

Patent number: 8050274Abstract: The invention relates to telecommunications systems, in which a subscriber is identified in a network with a first identifier and with a second identifier in a server providing services to the subscriber through the network. In the invention the first identifier is changed (3-3) in a message to be transferred to the server to a second identifier before transferring the message to the server. Thus the message received from the network can be associated with a particular subscriber in the server.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2006Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventor: Sami Ala-Luukko

Patent number: 7463882Abstract: A method for setting up redirection of contacts coming to a terminal (A) to at least one other communication system (A?), which is advantageously located outside the mobile communication network so that a proposal of and address of a other communication system (A?) is sent by utilizing the data transmission connection set up between the terminal (A) and the first communication system (S) to the terminal (A), whose acceptance of the proposal is followed by the activation of the redirection.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 2003Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventors: Frans Tuomela, Kai Väänänen

Patent number: 7415269Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for utilizing a mobile station for the transmission of authorization information requiring verification in a telecommunication network comprising the mobile station. In the method, the information to be verified is transmitted to the mobile station, the authorization information transmitted is presented on the display of the mobile station, the authorization information presented is read from the display of the mobile station, and the authenticity of the authorization information thus read is verified. According to the invention, the authorization information is sent in a form comprising information to be presented in a graphic form, and the authorization information is presented on the display of the mobile station using a user-independent function of the mobile station in question for the presentation of graphic information.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2002Date of Patent: August 19, 2008Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventors: Toni Komu, Petri Pohjanen, Antti Kilpela

Patent number: RE40333Abstract: A method at a telecommunications system and a data communications system configured to adapt a resource reservation protocol for fixed networks to radio networks with a large variation in bandwidth and quality. Using a method of hierarchical coding, a data stream is divided into separate data streams with different priorities. Using the resource reservation protocol, resources in the fixed network for the data streams are reserved. A node in the fixed network shunts the data streams according to a pre-decided priority as the transmission capacity of the node decreases. Thus, if the transmission capacity at the node decreases and the quality requirement of a data stream cannot be maintained, the data stream in question is shunted. Upon shunting, the node transmits a message instructing upstream nodes to update their resource reservations; use the reserved resource temporarily for other traffic; and shunt the data stream until otherwise instructed.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1998Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventors: Jonas Malmkvist, Stefan Sandell

Patent number: RE43065Abstract: Procedure and system for optimizing the route of a telecommunication connection to be set up in a telecommunication system that includes a mobile switching center (MSC), a service switching point (SSP), a service control point (SCP), a gateway (GW), and a subscriber register (HLR). The service switching point is connected to the service control point and the gateway is connected to the service control point and to the subscriber register. The telecommunication connection to be set up is directed via the service switching point to the service control point. A database query is sent from the service control point, via the gateway, to the subscriber register. In response, the subscriber register returns routing information, on the basis of which an optimal route to the mobile switching center under which the B-subscriber is currently located is determined.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2005Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Data Advisors LLCInventors: Tuomo Grohn, Olli Pera, Sami Ala-Luukko, Mika Sarkki
