Patents Assigned to Davy-Loewy Limited
  • Patent number: 4122740
Abstract: A rolling blade shear has a stationary blade and a movable blade which latter is mounted and driven to roll over the stationary blade. The movable blade is carried by a pair of opposed toggle mechanisms which are pivoted to a supporting frame and to the movable blade and which are coupled together so as to swing together. Guide means on the frame guide one end of the movable blade along a fixed path. The coupled toggle mechanisms are driven by hydraulic piston and cylinder units connected between the frame and the mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4060029
Abstract: An arrester system for arresting without substantial bounce a moving object, such as the arm of a billet stamper, is constituted by a housing mounting at one end a steel ball which is struck by the moving object. The housing also guides an axially movable steel cylinder which is normally in contact with the steel ball but is driven away from it on impact of the moving object with the ball. The housing further carries a hydraulic or resilient energy absorber which has a piston rod which extends parallel to the movement of the cylinder and which is struck by the cylinder when the latter is driven away from the steel ball. The ball and cylinder form an energy transforming device, the energy of the moving object being transferred via the ball to the cylinder, which in turn transfers the energy to the energy absorber in the direction of the piston rod. Energy transfer is effected without movement of the steel ball and without any substantial bounce of the object.

  • Patent number: 4056957
Abstract: In a rolling mill it is desirable that the torques delivered by the two driven rolls should be the same or at least there should be some predetermined torque differential between them. The torque transmitted by each of the driven rolls is measured and a measure of the difference between the torques is obtained. Said measure is then used to adjust the angular length of that part of the periphery of at least one roll where it is in contact with the workpiece being rolled in the sense to bring about the required torque distribution. The angular length may be adjusted by varying the angle of approach or exit of the workpiece relative to the mill rolls.

  • Patent number: 3977224
Abstract: A rod treatment line consists of a rod conveyor on which the rod is carried in open loop form, a coil forming device for forming the rod into coils, and a coil loader for moving the coils from the coil forming device to a loading station with the axes of the coils horizontal. For removing the coils there is a conveying system consisting of a number of hooks suspended from a track, the hooks being aligned with the track and pointed in the direction opposite to the direction of movement. In order to bring the hooks to the loading station pointed towards the coil forming device, so as to facilitate loading, the track is routed in its approach to the loading station, to pass the coil forming device from the direction of the rod conveyor.

  • Patent number: 3944903
Abstract: In a position transducer arrangement one or more AC operable position transducers are energised by the output of a variable amplitude oscillator. The output signals from the oscillator and the or each transducer are demodulated, or detected in turn by the same demodulator and the demodulated oscillator signal is compared with a reference signal to produce a difference signal. The difference signal is used to adjust the amplitude of the oscillator signal in the sense to reduce the difference signal to zero.
