Abstract: An apparatus for cooling a vessel containing molten metal has a quantity of liquid coolant atomized by a gaseous medium and onto a surface to be cooled. The supply of gaseous medium is constant while the supply of liquid coolant to the spray nozzles is controlled by at least one valve the operation of which is brought about by a non-electrical temperature responsive element in thermal contact with the surface to be cooled. The rate at which the liquid coolant is sprayed on to the hot surface is controlled such that the volume of coolant sprayed on to the surface to be cooled does not exceed the volume of liquid that is capable of being vaporized from the surface.

Abstract: A granulator comprises a rotary atomizer on to which the molten material to be granulated is poured in a stream. The rotation of the atomizer causes the molten material to be ejected therefrom in the form of globules. No fluid jets are used to break up the molten material. The globules pass through an enclosure and partially freeze to form granules which are collected in an annular trough. A gas is injected into the trough to induce a circumferential movement of the granules within the trough towards at least one exit from the trough.

Abstract: A valve assembly has a valve lid assembly which can be fitted in sealing relation on a valve seat, an over-center device can serve to force the lid on to the seat; a drive shaft connected to the lid assembly and drive means for rotating the shaft to open and close the valve seat, the over-center device serving to oppose rotation of the shaft up to a critical position whereupon the device assists in rotation of the shaft to open the valve seat.

Abstract: A tuyere stock for a blast furnace comprises three pipes arranged end-to-end. Between the first and second pipes and between the second and third pipes there are flexible bellows units and a pair of links on opposite sides of the second pipe are connected at their ends through spherical bearings to the first and third pipes so as to permit relative movement between the first and third pipes in two mutually normal directions which are also normal to the longitudinal axes of the links.

Abstract: A process is described for leaching ores or concentrates containing one or more metallic sulphides .with a circulating liquor so as to solubilize desired metal values therefrom, if said metal values are capable of dissolution in an acidic ferric sulphate solution (e.g. copper), or so as to render the desired metal values (e.g. gold) more accessible to subsequent processing, in each case by effecting metallic sulphide dissolution from the ore or concentrate.

Abstract: A control device for controlling the transfer of adsorbent to and from stages of an adsorbant-in-pulp contactor comprises a vessel for receipt of an adsorbent-pulp mixture and having an inclined screen for retention of adsorbent particles and passage of pulp, means for transferring adsorbent-pulp mixture to the vessel, means for measuring the volume of adsorbent or of adsorbent-pulp mixture in the vessel, and outlet means adjacent the lower end of the screen for recovery of drained adsorbent solids.
