  • Patent number: 4565715
Abstract: An elastomer coated bias fabric for reinforcing power transmission belts and the like is disclosed wherein one surface of the fabric is provided with an uncured, tacky, elastomeric composition. The fabric is prepared by pre-impregnating the fabric, transversely stretching the fabric on a tenter frame, coating a latex composition on both surfaces of the fabric while maintaining the fabric in its transversely stretched condition, and after drying the fabric, overcoating one surface only of the coated fabric with a tackified, latex composition which may contain a chemical linking agent which enhances the bond between the elastomer and the fabric by forming a chemical bridge between them. A method for manufacturing coated fabric is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4555438
Abstract: The following invention provides a fragrant wall covering having a polymer entrapped emollient-moisturizer composition incorporated therein. Since the emollient-moisturizer composition is incorporated into a dry blend of the polymeric material which is used to make the wall covering, the emollient-moisturizer composition is distributed substantially evenly throughout the polymer of the wall covering. In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the emollient-moisturizer composition comprises a volatilizable material having a strong, recognizable odor. Because of its even distribution in the polymer of the wall covering, the volatilizable material is released gradually into the atmosphere, and the wall covering retains said recognizable odor for a substantial period of time.

  • Patent number: 4548858
Abstract: A laminated printing blanket having compressible and resilient properties and a method for its production are provided. The compressible characteristics are provided by disposing a compressible intermediate layer having voids, between a base ply and a surface layer. The voids in the intermediate layer are produced by dispersing a blowing agent in an elastomer, sandwiching the elastomer containing the blowing agent between two fabric layers, and activating the blowing agent to produce voids. By activating the blowing agent before disposing the intermediate layer between the base ply and the surface layer, the gases from the blowing agent are prevented from migrating to the base ply or to the surface layer.

  • Patent number: 4541883
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for making a thermoplastic mandrel in which at least two sections of a thermoplastic rod, comprising a thermoplastic material which has been compounded with a finely divided metal or a metallic oxide filler, is subjected to a high voltage electrical induction field in a mold, causing fusion of the rod ends. Prior to the fusion, the ends of the thermoplastic rod are cut in a wedge shape, and in the preferred method, the wedge shaped ends meet at an angle of 90.degree. and are pressed together in the mold. The heat resulting from energizing the metal filler in said thermoplastic rods by induction, causes simultaneous melting of both thermoplastic rod ends and subsequent fusion of said rod ends. The thermoplastic mandrel made according to this method has a bond at the splicing point which is smooth, flash free, fused, solid and seamless, said mandrel being free of warping, shrinking and deformation.
