Patents Assigned to DB Riley, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5730088
Abstract: Heat recovery apparatus for extracting heat from a hot flue gas stream especially useful on a marine vessel. The apparatus includes a housing having opposite outer end walls, opposite outer side walls, a top wall and a bottom wall with a heat exchanger extending between the end walls spaced downwardly below the top wall, above the bottom wall and inwardly of the outer side walls. An inlet chamber is formed in the housing having an inlet opening in one of the end walls above the heat exchanger for receiving the hot flue gas stream and the inlet chamber includes a downwardly sloping wall for directing the incoming hot flue gas stream to flow downwardly through the heat exchanger toward the bottom wall. A pair of inner side walls are provided on opposite sides of the heat exchanger spaced inwardly of the outer side walls for directing the hot flue gas stream downwardly through the heat exchanger to a low level above the bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 5722354
Abstract: A new and improved heat recovery steam generating apparatus for extracting heat from a hot gas stream, comprises a vertically extending tube bank having upper and lower headers at opposite ends. Two pairs of external, gravity force, support columns are spaced upstream and downstream of the tube bank and a top support structure is mounted at the upper end of the columns for supporting the tube bank in downwardly hanging relation from the upper header. A pair of permanent internal trusses are supportively connected at the upper end to the columns and each truss has opposite edges slidably supported from a pair of columns for accommodating expansion and contraction of the tubes and for transferring and resisting lateral and shear loads, which loads are eventually transferred to a bottom structure at the lower end of the columns.

  • Patent number: 5685240
Abstract: A flow control apparatus for a coal pipe containing a stream of primary combustion air carrying pulverized solid fuel particles, includes a frame sealingly secured to an outside surface of the coal pipe around a window opening formed on one side of the pipe. An orifice plate having an orifice opening at the center is supported for pivotal movement in the coal pipe on a spindle extending radially outwardly from an edge portion on one side of the orifice plate and out through the window opening in the pipe. A bearing sleeve is provided for supporting the spindle for rotating movement about a spindle axis extending transversely of the coal pipe across the center thereof. A mounting plate structure for the sleeve is provided and is attached to the frame. A removable handle is attached on an outer end of the spindle for rotating the orifice plate in the coal pipe to vary the effective flow cross-section of the orifice opening for controlling the flow of coal and primary air to a burner.

  • Patent number: 5623884
Abstract: Apparatus for burning fuel comprises a conduit having an outlet end for supplying a fuel/air mixture to a fuel burning zone. A nozzle structure is provided adjacent the outlet end of the conduit mounted for pivotal movement about a pivot axis extending transversely across the conduit. The nozzle structure has an inlet end portion surrounding the outlet end of the conduit and has a plurality of separate outlet sections joining the inlet end portion. Swirl vanes are mounted in each of the outlet sections for causing the fuel/air mixture in adjacent outlet sections to swirl about respective central swirl axes of the outlet sections in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 5460206
Abstract: A modular wall liner panel for use in a duct system for containing a flow of gases comprises a central wall segment having a polygonal shape forming an inside wall surface of the, duct and having angularly intersecting pairs of parallel edges. Integral mounting edge flanges are provided adjacent the respective edge of the central wall segment adapted to be detachably securable in place on a supporting grid structure of the duct system wall structure. The grid structure has a plurality of elongated first and second parallel support elements extending transversely to one another and fasteners are provided for detachably securing at least one pair of mounting edge flanges of each duct liner panel to a pair of adjacent parallel support elements of the grid structure.
