Patent number: 8425779Abstract: In a method for converting fluctuating energy into a stable energy supply, the fluctuating energy is derived from the group of solar energy, wind power, waves or water currents, this energy being delivered to a first pump being integrated in a pressure circuit for delivering stable energy and the pressure circuit comprising a pressure amplifier with a double-cone device being driven by the liquid flow circulated by the first pump. This allows the stabilization of fluctuating energy to be used e.g. in desalination plants without supplemental storage energy and without reverting to electric current conversion.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2007Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventor: John Stark

Patent number: 7662290Abstract: The present invention removes contaminants from well water without creating the problem of large volumes of waste liquid disposal. It uses double-cone devices as pressure amplifiers which due to their lack of moving parts avoid the risk of additional contamination of the well and provide a prolonged lifetime. For toxic contaminants, a periodic purging of the concentrated contaminants is required. In the case of (sea) salt contamination, there is no waste brine to be continuously handled at all and the system may be run without interruption over an extended period. In this case, the brine is dumped into the well simply by periodically stopping the plant. The brine pours out of the double-cone unit(s) and due to its higher density, sinks down in the well without disturbing the operation of the purification plant.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2004Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventor: John Stark

Patent number: 7128092Abstract: An arrangement for separating a fluid from admixtures has at least a first and a second separation unit. The separation units are of the type using an increased pressure or pressure difference for their function and have improved performance with increased pressure. The second separation unit is supplied with the fluid by a pressurising pump device. The first separation unit furnishes fluid of reduced concentration of admixtures to the pressurising pump device. It is supplied with supply fluid having reduced, the same, or elevated concentration of admixtures, preferably either taken directly from an outlet of the pump device or from an outlet of the second separation unit for fluid of increased concentration of admixtures. Overall, the concentration of admixtures in the fluid supplied to the second separation unit is decreased, leading to an increase in overall performance.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2004Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventors: John Herman Stark, Hansjorg Wagenbach, Paul Werner Straub

Patent number: 7077207Abstract: The performance of a double-cone device (1) is increased, not only by moving the gap or inlet openings (22) a short distance into the exit cone (47), but also by making the conicity ?3 (55) of the so-formed small diffuser less than the conicity ?2 (109) of the remaining part (53) of the exit cone. Double cone units (7, 60), particularly the ones with this improved diffuser, may be used in pump installations (1, 60), like well-pumps (1), where liquids must be pumped from great depths.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2002Date of Patent: July 18, 2006Assignee: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventors: John Stark, Hansjörg Wagenbach, Jörg Schār

Publication number: 20040159357Abstract: An arrangement for separating a fluid from admixtures comprises at least a first (36) and a second separation unit (45). The separation units are of the type needing an increased pressure or pressure difference for their function of showing improved performance with increased pressure.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2004Publication date: August 19, 2004Applicant: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventors: John Herman Stark, Hans Jorg Wagenbach, Paul Werner Straub

Patent number: 6701960Abstract: The lifetime of a double-cone device (21) for creating a pressure difference in a streaming fluid can be greatly increased by moving the inlet gap (5) into the exit cone (4). This results in a short so-called diffuser (22) being obtained between the gap (5) and the orifice (19), where entry cone (3) and exit cone (4) are connected. The increased lifetime permits the double-cone device to cope with much higher flow rates. Thus higher system pressures are created which enhance the use of the double-cone for such applications as the desalination of sea water by reverse osmosis. The important application of the seperation of oil from water using a separating device such as a cyclone (57) working under elevated pressure is now feasible. The increased power of the double-cone permits one to profit more fully from the new concept of reduction of the concentration of the feed supplied to the double-cone device (21).Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2002Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: DCT Double-Cone Technology AGInventors: John Herman Stark, Hansjörg Wagenbach, Paul Werner Straub
