  • Patent number: 5797242
Abstract: The endless band is provided with print marks (D) at equal distances, this distance (r) corresponding to the circumference of the largest pack goods item (P) to be banded, plus an overlap. A strip-shaped glue coat (L) for closing the band loops (5a) is applied transversely to the longitudinal direction of the band at a constant predetermined distance (s) in front of each print mark (D). During banding, after the looping of the pack goods (P) the band movement is stopped when a print mark (D) is read by a print mark reader. At standstill, a glue coat (L) is located directly at the closing mechanism. While the free band end is retained, the endless band is retracted until the band loop (5a) surrounds the pack goods (P) with a specific tension. The closing of the band loop and the severance of the latter then take place.

  • Patent number: 5778088
Abstract: A procedure for producing a reference model for checking the printing quality of an image composed of at least two drawings starts with printed test sheets. The sheets are aligned so that drawings printed in a first printing are in register. The images are recorded, storing the densitometric pixel values which constitute the images in memory. The minimum value obtained is associated with each pixel and a model for the first drawing is obtained. The same procedure is followed for producing a second drawing and another model. The models thus obtained are recombined in order to form the reference model of the image to be checked.

  • Patent number: 5590507
Abstract: A sequence of H sheets of notes, for example 100 sheets, is first of all checked for misprints, and the note positions having misprints of each sheet are stored in a computer. The sheets of this sequence then pass a numbering machine (4), which has freely programmable numbering units, which are controlled by the computer. In this case, the numbering takes place in such a way that all the satisfactory note prints within the sequence of sheets, excluding the misprints, receive a consecutive sequence of numbers, the sequence of numbers of H notes in one and the same note position being the continuation of the sequence of numbers of the H notes in a neighboring note position. The next sequence of H sheets receives the subsequent sequence of numbers.

  • Patent number: 5555805
Abstract: The printing unit has two cooperating cylinders (1, 4) which form the printing nip and which have printing saddles (2, 5) separated by cylinder pits (3, 6). The paper web (7) passing through the printing nip is transported in the pilgrim-step mode, in order to print formats adjoining one another. The two cylinders (1, 4) are angularly adjustable relative to one another, in respect of the position of their printing saddles (2, 5) cooperating in the printing nip, in a manner offset by the amount of a circumferential distance which is approximately equal to the difference between the circumferential length (S) of a printing saddle and the circumferential length (B) of a printing image. The impression zone is therefore only approximately as large as the printing image, and the impression-free zone available for retracting the paper web is correspondingly enlarged.

  • Patent number: 5540146
Abstract: The web-fed printing machine has two cylinders (2, 3) which form the nip, a paper-web-directing device (10) with an infeed roller (14) and a discharge roller (15), which are arranged adjustably on both sides of the nip (S), and an upstream web-feeding device (20), which likewise exhibits an infeed roller (22) and a discharge roller (23). In order to align the paper web, the web-directing device (10) can be displaced in a plane running through the axes of the rollers, and can be adjusted as a function of the signals from web-edge sensors (16, 17) such that it can be adjusted in the direction of the axes of rotation of the rollers and can be pivoted into an oblique position. The web-feeding device (20) can be pivoted about a stationary spindle (24) and is connected mechanically to the web-directing device.

  • Patent number: 5530562
Abstract: An image acquisition system includes a transport mechanism for transporting sheets of objects past a sensor. The sensor scans the objects and generates data streams which are scaled by a multiplier to compensate for the speed variation of the transport mechanism. At speeds much lower than a nominal speed, the scanning rate of the sensor is increased to generate several data streams for each scanned line, which are then combined in a single speed corrected signal stream for further processing.

  • Patent number: 5461977
Abstract: The device has a sheet-transfer cylinder (2) with a movable setting plate (3) which bears the sheet grippers (4) and whose lateral ends are individually adjustable during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) with the aid in each case of a roller lever (9) in the circumferential direction in such a way that the sheet transferred to the impression cylinder is in a position which corresponds to the precise printing register. For this purpose, each roller lever (9) mounted movably on the transfer cylinder (2) is guided in a guide path (15c), surrounding the cylinder axis (1) in an annular manner, of an actuator (15, 16) which is suspended pivotably above the cylinder axis (1). Said actuator is provided with individually adjustable stops (19a, 19b) which, by interaction with peripheral cams (24a to 24d) pivot the relevant actuator (15, 16) by a predeterminable amount during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) and thus displace the relevant end of the setting plate (3).
