Patent number: 7044623Abstract: A thru-hull fitting assembly is connected to the forward end of a hollow lamp housing for mounting to a hole in the hull of a vessel in a water-tight fashion. An HID or other lamp is mounted in the lamp housing and is surrounded by a reflector which may have an outer elliptical section and an inner parabolic section. A protective transparent window extends across the forward end of the lamp housing and is sealed thereto. The window may be made of sapphire to provide improved heat dissipation and to resist scratching during hull cleaning and breakage due to thermal shock and wave slap. A circuit may be connected to the lamp to provide over-heat protection, leak detection, as well as fault and power status indicators. Alternate embodiments utilize a solid light pipe or a hollow reflective tube to convey light from the lamp to the protective window.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2003Date of Patent: May 16, 2006Assignee: DeepSea Power & LightInventors: Mark S. Patent number: 7009399Abstract: At least one antenna array including three mutually orthogonal antennas each sharing a common center point senses an electromagnetic signal emitted by a buried object such as a utility line, pipe or sonde. A circuit at least partially mounted in a housing is connected to the array and determines a location of the buried object by measuring signal strength and field angles in three dimensions without having to align the antenna array relative to the buried object while eliminating nulls and false peaks. A graphical user interface (GUI) has user-friendly icons, symbols, menus, numbers and graphical and auditory representation of signal strength. A SEARCH view indicates signal strength by showing a rotating strength indicator, a trace mode MAP view in which line location is shown by a line that moves side-to-side, and a sonde mode MAP view in which sonde location is shown by a moving line, pole and equator.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2002Date of Patent: March 7, 2006Assignee: Deepsea Power & LightInventors: Mark S. Patent number: 6908310Abstract: A plurality of contact rings are supported in spaced relation on a cylindrical body about a common axis. A housing is located adjacent the contact rings and is configured to permit relative rotation between the contact rings and the housing about the common axis. A plurality of contact brushes each have a proximal end connected to a printed circuit board (PCB). A distal end of each of the contact brushes is slidably engaged with a corresponding one of the contact rings. Optionally a signal generating portion of a position encoder may be mounted on the PCB. The position encoder has a reference portion that is mounted on the cylindrical body.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2004Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Deepsea Power & LightInventors: Mark S. Patent number: 6862945Abstract: A guide for a video pipe inspection system that includes a camera head and a tubular coil spring having a central axis. A guide member with radially extending fins is configured to surround the tubular spring. At least one pin is removably engageable with the guide member and the tubular coil spring to retain the guide member in position with respect to the tubular coil spring. The straight segments of a pair of opposing U-shaped pins can be inserted into grooves in the guide member so that they extend between adjacent coils of the tubular coil spring. In alternate form, the guide member may include an inner capture ring assembly that receives the pins. An outer yoke assembly surrounds, and is freely rotatable about, the inner capture ring assembly and includes a pair of axles for rotatably supporting a pair of wheels that engage an interior wall of the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2002Date of Patent: March 8, 2005Assignee: Deepsea Power & LightInventors: Eric Chapman, Michael E. Patent number: 5808239Abstract: A push-cable for mechanically and electrically connecting a video camera head to a push reel and a video circuit includes a central resilient push rod made of a composite material such as resin impregnated glass fibers, and a plurality of conductive wires and filler rods helically wound around the push rod. The push-cable further includes a conductive shield layer surrounding the conductive wires and filler rods and sandwiched between inner and outer layers of plastic film tape. A layer of a high pull strength material such as braided KEVLAR surrounds and overlies the film-enclosed conductive shield. The final layer of the push-cable is a co-polymer polypropylene insulating protective layer. The configuration and geometry of the components of the push-cable are preferably designed to achieve a seventy-five ohm impedence and a high signal-to-noise ratio over an extended length.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1996Date of Patent: September 15, 1998Assignee: Deepsea Power & LightInventor: Mark S.
