  • Patent number: 11555549
Abstract: A device and method to improve accuracy of a water meter where a fluid is introduced into a valve assembly having an external casing. The fluid contacts a toggle stopper having a shaft, plate, and guides. A calibrated spring positioned around the shaft in contact with the plate assesses if the desired fluid meets a predetermined pressure. If yes, the calibrated spring compresses thereby toggling the plate within the chamber to allow desired fluid to enter the chamber. If no, the calibrated spring remains in an expanded state to seal the valve assembly. Upon such seal, there is an equalizing of both the desired and undesired fluids to the same pressure by decreasing the volume of the undesired fluid, causing the calibrated spring to compress and reopen.

  • Patent number: 10004307
Abstract: In exemplary embodiments of the present invention, systems and methods for providing foldable duffle bags are presented. Such exemplary collapsible duffles can have two states: (i) a fully extended state in which said luggage is used by a user to hold, for example, clothing and objects, and its wheels fully extended and usable, and (ii) a compressed or folded state in which the luggage has a minimum volume and can be easily and conveniently stored and carried, especially where space is a premium, where the wheels are invisible and out of the way. Various novel technologies are used to obtain maximal compression in the compressed state, and to allow for convenient transformation between the two states. Exemplary duffles of rather significant fully expanded size can be rolled or folded onto themselves, the wheels can be turned inside out, and the article compressed into a small hand held carrying case.

Abstract: A die casting process using pattern recognition techniques to identify those die castings manufactured under conditions likely to produce a die casting which would subsequently prove unacceptable for use. By promptly identifying such die castings, they may be discarded before being shipped to a remote facility for further processing. As a result, the rejection rate of die castings at the remote facility may be reduced and the raw materials used to form the discarded die castings may be more readily recycled.

  • Patent number: 8180091
Abstract: A headphone that is especially useful to test the efficacy of an earplug installed in an ear canal, by using the headphone to produce sound and by sensing sound pressure at the ear drum despite the presence of the earplug. Applicant uses the speaker (42) in the headphone to produce a smooth and reasonably “flat” frequency response by reversing the speaker orientation. In the reversed orientation, the front side of the speaker diaphragm (50) faces into the headphone cup and away from the ear. The rear side of the speaker that has a circle of holes (52), faces toward the ear. The headphone frame has a cylindrical passage (40) for carrying sound to the person's ear, which has an outer end (78) that is tapered to encompass the holes in the speaker back side (44). The axial distance (L) from the speaker rear side to the ear, is at least 0.6 inch to accommodate the protruding end of an earplug.

  • Publication number: 20120085002
Abstract: A suspension heel is provided for use with footwear, such as high heeled shoes, to provide cushioning to the wearer. The suspension heel includes a heel shaft connected to the shoe sole and a compliant heel plug attached to the heel shaft. The shaft includes a cavity or other receptacle for receiving the compliant heel plug. The suspension heel provides cushioning as well as stability for the wearer of the footwear, while maintaining aesthetic style. A relief detail formed by the compliant heel plug and the shaft provides compliance by compressing when a force is applied. For instance, as a person walks in the shoe, ground contact applies a force to the suspension heel. The relief detail deforms or compresses in response to the force, attenuating it and providing cushioning to the wearer.

  • Publication number: 20100290106
Abstract: A light generation and amplification system includes a length of laser-active filter fiber having a refractive index profile that suppresses unwanted Stokes orders at wavelengths longer than a target wavelength and that has normal dispersion over its operating wavelength. A nested series of reflectors is provided at the fiber's input and output ends, and are configured to provide a nested series of Raman cavities, separated in wavelength by approximately the respective Stokes shifts. The first cavity in the series is a combined cavity that provides laser oscillation due to a combination of ionic gain and feedback at a selected first wavelength and that provides Raman gain to light at the first Stokes shift of the first wavelength when light at the first wavelength has an energy exceeding a Raman scattering threshold. The Raman cavities provide a stepwise transition between the first wavelength and the target wavelength.

  • Publication number: 20100284061
Abstract: In a light amplification system and technique, a pump source provides pump power at a source wavelength. The pump power is launched as an input into a cascaded Raman resonator. A wavelength-dependent loss element is connected such that it precedes the cascaded Raman resonator. The wavelength-dependent loss element is configured to transmit light power at the source wavelength with low loss, and to provide high loss at the first Stokes shift. The wavelength-dependent loss element prevents buildup of light power between the pump source and the cascaded Raman resonator, thereby preventing backward propagation of light power back into the pump source.

  • Publication number: 20100284060
Abstract: In a light amplification system, a fiber-based oscillator, amplifier, and cascaded Raman resonator are coupled together in series. The oscillator output is provided as an input into the amplifier, the amplifier output is provided as a pumping input into the cascaded Raman resonator, and the cascaded Raman resonator provides as an output single-mode radiation at a target wavelength. A loss element is connected between the oscillator and amplifier, whereby the oscillator is optically isolated from the amplifier and cascaded Raman resonator. A filter is coupled between the isolator and the amplifier for filtering out backward-propagating Stokes wavelengths generated in the cascaded Raman resonator. The oscillator is operable within a first power level range, and the amplifier and cascaded Raman resonator are operable within a second power level range exceeding the first power level range.

  • Patent number: 7787544
Abstract: The invention describes a method and device for designing a set of codewords, which have good properties for use in communication systems. These codeword sets are useful because they provide advantages to a communication system that uses them in that they result in lower error rates in the receiver. The method for designing the codes is to take a good set of codes with perfect periodic autocorrelation and manipulate it so as to transform it into a better code-set, for example a code-set with higher mean Golay merit factor, lower spectral peak to average ratio and lower mean cross correlation.

  • Publication number: 20090300111
Abstract: A server-based browser system provides a server-based browser and a client system browser. The client browser reports the position of a user click on its display screen, hotspot ID, or URL to the server-side browser which retrieves a Document Object Model (DOM) model and view tree for the client and finds the location on the Web page that the user clicked on using the coordinates or hotspot ID received from the client. If there is a script associated with the location, it is executed and the resulting page location is requested from the appropriate server. If there is a URL associated with the location, it is requested from the appropriate server. The response Web page HTML definition is parsed and a DOM tree model is created which is used to create a view tree model. The server-side browser retrieves a style sheet, layout algorithms, and device constraints for the client device and lays out the view model using them onto a virtual page and determines the visual content.

  • Patent number: 7624274
Abstract: In a signature-based duplicate detection system, multiple different lexicons are used to generate a signature for a document that comprises multiple sub-signatures. The signature of an e-mail or other document may be defined as the set of signatures generated based on the multiple different lexicons. When a collection of sub-signatures is used as a document's signature, two documents may be considered as being duplicates when a sub-signature generated based on a particular lexicon in the collection for the first document matches a signature generated based on the same lexicon in the collection for the second document.
