Abstract: A tray formed of a single piece blank and which has reinforced corners to enable superior stacking capabilities and capacities is presented. The tray includes a base and four panels extending therefrom. Each panel has a major component extending from the base and a minor component extending from opposing sides of the major component. The minor components of the side panels consist of a tab and a freestanding portion. Only the tab is adhesively engaged to an interior surface of an immediately adjacent major component of and adjacent panel. The minor components of front and back panels being adhesively engaged to the major component of the side panels. The reinforced corners having a triangular shape defined by the major component and one minor component of the front panel or back panel and a hypotenuse consisting of one freestanding portion.

The perforations are cut in the heat-shrink wrapping with a packaging apparatus having a cutting member. The cutting member is used in combination with a die to leave a chad attached to heat-shrink wrapping. Thereafter, the heat-shrink wrapping is shrunk with a heating source in order to bundle containers together within the package assembly.

The finished carton can have an odd number of sides and/or an angle between two adjacent sides that is less than 90 degrees. The forming assembly includes a forming head and a forming cavity. The forming head acts as an inner die and the forming cavity acts as an outer die. In addition, the forming cavity includes at least one cavity side plate that desirably folds tabs on the carton blank to secure the tabs to one another and form the finished carton.

Abstract: A bulk product diverter and system for separating bulk product units into multiple product streams includes a unique conveyor assembly. The conveyor has a plurality of flights wherein the adjacent flights define buckets into which groups of bulk product units are placed. The conveyor conveys each bucket in a downstream direction along a horizontal path, then along a vertical path, then around a turn of approximately 150 degrees. A diverter fence is selectively movable between an open position and a closed position. In the open position the path defines a first gate through which acceptable product units are passed. In the closed position the product units continue around the turn to pass through a second gate.

Abstract: A packaging apparatus for real-time alignment of packaging surfaces can include two or more sensors for detecting the positioning of carton surfaces and a servo system. The servo system can include a servo motor and a controller. The servo system records the positioning of the carton surfaces and calculates a difference in position. The controller compares the calculated value with a predetermined value and if necessary, the servo motor turns a correction wheel to align the carton surfaces.
