  • Patent number: 7952562
Abstract: A portable information handling system, user interface components thereof, and methods of user control interface and assembly are disclosed. In one embodiment a keyboard assembly, including a large plurality of contacts for a keyboard matrix, connects directly to a palmrest assembly. The palmrest assembly includes a keyboard controller, which decodes keystrokes and then passes the decoded keystrokes to, e.g., an I/O controller on the motherboard of the portable information handling system. This results in greatly improved layout and usage of the motherboard routing spaces, improved reliability, and simplified assembly.

  • Patent number: 7953827
Abstract: Network addresses are dynamically allocated to blade information handling systems supported by a blade chassis having plural blade slots. A network address seed stored in memory associated with the blade chassis is retrieved by a management controller of a blade information handling system and applied by a network address generator to local network address information to generate a network address. The generated network address is applied by the management controller to a network component of the blade information handling system to establish communications over a network. For example, a WWN generated from a blade chassis seed address provides a blade information handling system host bus adapter access to a storage area network for boot from SAN support for the blade information handling system.

  • Patent number: 7953964
Abstract: A system for migrating information includes a first information handling system (“IHS”). The first IHS is for, in response to a first boot event, booting from a computer readable medium, bypassing the first IHS' user authentication requirement, and establishing a connection between the first IHS and a second IHS. The system for migrating information also includes the second IHS, coupled to the first IHS. The second IHS is for, in response to a second boot event, booting from a storage device of the second IHS, establishing the connection between the first IHS and the second IHS, and migrating information from the first IHS to the second IHS.

Abstract: A method includes emulating an information handling system on a virtual machine, allowing users to create and validate an operating environment on the emulation, creating an image based on the validated environment, and loading the image onto an information handling system. The environment includes an operating system and an application from the virtual machine module, and an application from the user. A disk imaging system includes a virtual machine that emulates an information handling system, and a session manager that establishes a session between an interface and the virtual machine. The virtual machine allows users to create an operating environment including an operating system and an application from the virtual machine and an application from the users, and to validate the environment, captures an image of the environment, and loads the image onto an information handling system.

  • Publication number: 20110125720
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for performing network efficient deduplication. Segments are extracted from files received for deduplication at a host connected to a target over one or more networks and/or fabrics in a deduplication system. Segment identifiers (IDs) are determined and compared with segment IDs for segments already deduplicated. Segments already deduplicated need not be transmitted to a target system. References and reference counts are modified at a target system. Updating references and reference counts may involve modifying filemaps, dictionaries, and datastore suitcases for both already deduplicated and not already deduplicated segments.

Abstract: A synthetic air jet cooling system includes a first component. A fan is in fluid communication with the first component. A synthetic air jet is located adjacent the first component. A thermal management engine is coupled to the first component, the fan, and the synthetic air jet. The thermal management engine is operable to receive a first component operating condition, compare the first component operating condition to a target operating condition, and increase a fan fluid flow rate from the fan and a synthetic air jet fluid flow rate from the synthetic air jet in order to reduce the difference between the first component operating condition the target operating condition. The thermal management engine increases the synthetic air jet fluid flow rate from the synthetic air jet to a predetermined synthetic air jet fluid flow rate prior to increasing the fan fluid flow rate from the fan in order to provide improvements in power consumption, airflow, and acoustics.

  • Patent number: 7948751
Abstract: A security device protects information handling systems from theft with a reduced footprint at the information handling system by interfacing a key receptacle with a lock hook through a flexible member, such as a coaxial cable. Rotation at the key receptacle by a key translates through the flexible member to the lock hook so that the lock hook rotates to a locked position in a lock body integrated with the information handling system chassis. The flexible member avoids or reduces leverage placed on the lock body through the security device.

  • Publication number: 20110109792
Abstract: A system employs adaptive data rate reduction of rendered pixel data for wireless transmission between a source device and a display device. The source device determines the display properties of the display device and the current available bandwidth of a wireless channel connecting the source device to the display device. The source device adjusts a data rate reduction process that is applied to the rendered pixel data before the resulting pixel data is wirelessly transmitted based on these parameters. In response to a change in the data rate reduction process, the source device further can transmit to the display device an indicator that identifies the current data rate reduction type and effective compression ratio being applied by the source device. The display device can use this indicator to configure the processing of the rendered pixel data at the display device so as to mirror or otherwise comply with the particular data rate reduction process applied by the source device.

  • Patent number: 7941184
Abstract: Methods and systems for managing and/or tracking use of SIM smart cards with integrated or external SIM module systems that are utilized with information handling systems. A SIM module system may be locked with a generic locking code to lock a SIM module system of a given information handling system for use with a designated SIM smart card that is programmed with a matching generic locking code. The locked SIM module system of the information handling system may be further configured so that it may be unlocked using an unlocking code so as to allow use of the information handling system with SIM smart cards other than the designated SIM smart card. To allow tracking of the disposition of the designated SIM smart card, notification of the non-activation, de-activation and/or activation of the designated SIM smart card (e.g., to an activation tracking agent) may be required before obtaining the unlocking code, for example, from an activation tracking agent.

  • Publication number: 20110107115
Abstract: A performance state control system includes a processor and a voltage regulator coupled to the processor. The voltage regulator provides a regulated voltage to the processor, as instructed by the processor. A logic circuit coupled to the processor and the voltage regulator detects that the processor is in an operating power state, determines a time that the processor is in the operating state and instructs the processor to execute a performance state determination algorithm when the time that the processor is in the operating state exceeds a pre-determined threshold value.
