    Abstract: A battery pack containing a plurality of battery cells having a housing and defining an opening within the housing and a battery control module configured to be disposed within the opening of the battery pack. The battery control module may contain circuitry for controlling a connection between the battery pack and an electric load or electric source and for controlling the charging of the battery cells. The circuitry within the battery control module is connected by rigid conductors, such as conductive traces on a circuit board or bus bars rather than flexible wire cables. The battery control module may be configured to be removed for serving the battery pack without removing the battery pack housing. The battery pack may further include a battery voltage monitor configured to monitor a terminal voltage of each battery cell and send a digital signal representing the voltage to the battery control module.

One of the circular spline and the dynamic spline is fixed to the housing. An oil passage is provided for receiving oil from an internal combustion engine for lubricating the harmonic gear drive unit.

    Abstract: A lightweight radio/CD player for vehicular application is virtually “fastenerless” and includes a case and frontal interface formed of polymer based material that is molded to provide details to accept audio devices such as playback mechanisms (if desired) and radio receivers, as well as the circuit boards required for electrical control and display. The case and frontal interface are of composite structure, including an insert molded electrically conductive wire mesh screen that has been pre-formed to contour with the molding operation. The wire mesh provides EMC, RFI, BCI and ESD shielding and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. The PCB architecture is bifurcated into a first board carrying common circuit components in a surface mount configuration suitable for high volume production, and a second board carrying application specific circuit components in a wave soldered stick mount configuration.

    Abstract: A camshaft phaser for controllably varying the phase relationship between a crankshaft and a camshaft in an internal combustion engine is attached to the camshaft with a camshaft phaser attachment bolt. The camshaft phaser attachment bolt includes a stepped bore for communicating pressurized oil from the internal combustion engine to a valve spool and is defined by a larger diameter bore, a smaller diameter bore, and a shoulder between the larger diameter bore and the smaller diameter bore. A check valve assembly includes a check valve body axially moveable within the larger diameter bore. The check valve body includes a plurality of azimuthally spaced guiding walls, a plurality of clearance walls separating the guiding walls, and a seating surface at one end of the guiding walls and the clearance walls for selectively seating with the shoulder to prevent fluid communication between the larger diameter bore and the smaller diameter bore.

    Abstract: A system, heated fuel injector, and controller for closed-loop temperature control of a heated fuel injector having simultaneous two-way data communication over a single-line data connection. The system includes a voltage source to output a heater enable signal and a variable current sink configured to draw a current value indicative of a temperature value related to the heated fuel injector. The heater signal and the current value are simultaneously present on the single-line data connection. The configuration reduces the effect of ground shift on the accuracy of determining a feedback signal from the heated fuel injector. The feedback signal is a temperature value related to the heated fuel injector and is indicated by a current value. Because the feedback signal is a current value, the feedback signal is generally immune from being influenced by ground shift between the controller and the heated fuel injector.

The capture resonator is configured to receive the charging signal and provide electrical power based on the charging signal. The system also includes a magnetic sensor configured to receive the beacon signal and provide a location signal indicative of a relative location between the transmit and capture resonators to a controller that provides an alignment signal indicative of a movement required to align the source resonator and the capture resonator.

    Abstract: A variable displacement compressor with a compensated suction shutoff valve (SSV). The SSV prevents noise generated by a suction reed valve at low refrigerant flow rates in an internal suction region from propagating to an air conditioner evaporator by moving a piston to obstruct an opening and restrict fluid communication. The degree of restriction is decreased by an opening force generated by refrigerant at an external suction pressure acting over a first area, and increased by refrigerant at a crankcase pressure acting over a second area. The second area is smaller than the first area so that at high refrigerant flow rates, the effect of crankcase pressure is reduced so that the restriction is reduced and the compressor operates at greater efficiency. The piston position is also influenced by refrigerant at a pressure intermediate the external suction pressure and the internal suction pressure acting over a third area.

    Abstract: A three-port flow control valve comprising a valve body having two opposite-facing valve seats disposed along a central bore terminating in an exhaust port. A supply port communicates with the first valve seat, and a common port communicates with the second valve seat. A pintle shaft connected to an actuating linear solenoid extends along the central bore. A first valve head actuated by the pintle shaft mates with the first valve seat. A second valve head disposed colinearly with the pintle shaft mates with the second valve seat. Opening of the first valve closes the second valve and vice versa. While the solenoid is de-energized the supply pressure keeps the first valve closed. A spring may be disposed between the second valve head and the exhaust port to urge the second valve head to close with the second valve seat.

    Abstract: A sensor module configured to be located behind a window of a vehicle to detect an object through the window and about the vehicle. The module includes a radar unit with an antenna and a controller. The antenna emits and/or receives a radar signal through the window with a selected or preferred polarization. The polarization determines a preferred angle of propagation of the radar signal through the window based on reflection characteristics of the window that vary with impingement angle and transmitted polarization. By varying the transmitted polarization vs. beam direction when a directional antenna is used, the signal propagating through the windshield can be maximized to enhance object detection over a range of signal directions. Also, by varying the transmitted polarization when an omnidirectional type antenna is used, the object can be ‘illuminated’ with variable intensity and detected with variable sensitivity.
