Method of overmolding an electronic assembly having an insert-molded vertical mount connector header
Patent number: 7603770Abstract: An electronic assembly including a vertical mount connector header is overmolded to form an encapsulated module. Conductor pins retained in the connector header are coupled to a circuit board to support the connector header with respect to the circuit board, leaving an open space between the connector header and the circuit board. The electronic assembly is then placed in a mold for plastic encapsulation. The floor of the mold has a well sized to accommodate the conductor pins and shroud of the connector header, and the connector header has a peripheral flange that seats against the floor of the mold to keep encapsulant out of the well. Encapsulant fills open spaces inboard of the connector header, and a connector insert disposed between the connector header and the floor of the well prevents distention of the connector header and circuit board due to the packing pressure of the encapsulant.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2007Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Scott D. Publication number: 20090256342Abstract: A steering column assembly includes an upper jacket and a lower jacket partially disposed within said upper jacket. A bushing is disposed between the upper jacket and the lower jacket. The upper jacket and the lower jacket are collapsible along a longitudinal axis in response to a collision event. A first roller mechanism and a second roller mechanism are mounted to the upper jacket near a forward end and a rearward end of the bushing respectively for engaging the lower jacket in rolling engagement. The first and second roller mechanisms resist a resultant force caused by a bending moment created by a transverse load applied to a distal end of the upper jacket to minimize an increase in a sliding frictional force between the bushing and the lower jacket.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2008Publication date: October 15, 2009Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: William D. Publication number: 20090249916Abstract: A steering column assembly includes a first jacket defining a first bore and a second jacket defining a second bore aligned with the first bore prior to collapse of the first jacket and the second jacket. A jacket connector extends through the bores to interconnect the first jacket and the second jacket. The jacket connector includes a pre-determined shear resistance, above which the jacket connector is sheared to permit telescopic movement between the first jacket and the second jacket. Accordingly, in response to an axial load greater than the pre-determined shear resistance of the jacket connector being applied to one of the first jacket and the second jacket, the jacket connector shears, permitting the telescopic movement. The jacket connector includes a pin defining a pin bore. The pin bore defines a cross sectional area, with the pre-determined shear resistance depending upon the cross sectional area of the pin bore.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2008Publication date: October 8, 2009Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Jason R. Patent number: 7597986Abstract: In a solid-oxide fuel cell assembly comprising a plurality of components having electrically-conductive mating surfaces therebetween, the surfaces are sealed by gasket elements that include first and second silver braze alloy layers and a dielectric layer, formed preferably of yttrium-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), disposed between the alloy layers. The alloy is capable of bonding to many ceramics, including YSZ, and is readily brazed to the oxide layer formed on many metals at elevated temperatures. Because the braze alloy is electrically conductive, a dielectric layer must be included to break conductivity in bonding applications where electrical insulation is required. YSZ functions as a reliable insulator and will not crystallize or fracture as do prior art glass insulators. The assembly is useful as an auxiliary power unit in a vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2007Date of Patent: October 6, 2009Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Karl J.
