  • Patent number: 6802929
Abstract: A process for transmission laser welding of a first plastic part and a second plastic part that can be at least partially received in the first plastic part is proposed. The second plastic part is introduced into the first plastic part, to which it is connected by means of an interference fit connection, whereby at least one contact zone between the second plastic part and the first plastic part is formed as a result of this interference fit. A laser beam is directed to impinge on the second plastic part, through the first plastic part, along the at least one contact zone to form a weld.

  • Patent number: 6803146
Abstract: A battery terminal is configured to be secured to a battery case and includes a terminal assembly, and a ring. The terminal assembly includes an insert having a threaded bore, and an outer metal portion having a base with an annular flange configured to engage the inner surface of the case. The terminal further includes an anti-turn system with a first set of angularly-spaced bosses with intervening slots formed on a boss on the case, a second set of angularly-spaced bosses with intervening slots on a first side of the ring facing the case, which are complementary to the first set to form interlocking features. A set of recesses on the opposite side of the ring is configured to receive spun-over lead material during final finishing to form another pair of interlocking features. The exterior spun battery terminal eliminates corrosion that would otherwise occur due to cold worked lead contacting acid.

  • Patent number: 6802340
Abstract: A fuel pressure regulator including a valve head having a centerline offset from the centerline of a corresponding fuel orifice. The valve head may be offset with respect to the valve seat and orifice, the orifice may be offset within the seat with respect to the head and diaphragm assembly, or the axes of the head and seat may be non-coaxially biased. Because the vector of the valve closing force does not align with the centerline of the valve head and diaphragm assembly, a resulting torque on the valve head keeps the head in a stable, pivoted position at all flow rates. The valve head always makes contact with the valve seat at a predetermined point during regulator operation, eliminating pressure instabilities and noise experienced in prior art pressure regulators.

  • Patent number: 6803743
Abstract: A jump start protection circuit having a normally open switch and a resistor positioned in parallel intermediate to a battery and a jump start post. A controller manipulates the switch between an open position and closed position, the closed position connects the jump start post to the battery and the open position disconnects the jump start post from the battery. The controller measures voltages at the battery and jump start post and is capable of receiving one or more additional inputs. The controller closes the switch when acceptable jump start conditions are detected. The controller can open the switch or maintain the switch in an open position. The jump start circuit provides protection against attempts to charge a battery with incorrect polarity connections and attempts to charge a battery from a potentially hazardous higher voltage power source.

  • Patent number: 6803740
Abstract: A method for determining phase current for each of a plurality of individual phase coils of a switched reluctance machine (SRM) is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the method includes determining the current passing through a first resistive element and a second resistive element in an SRM drive circuit. A conduction mode of the SRM drive circuit is determined, the conduction mode being based upon an ON/OFF state of each of a pair of switching transistors controlling current through each of the plurality of individual phase coils. The phase current through each of the plurality of individual phase coils is then calculated, based upon the conduction mode and the determined current passing through said first and second resistive elements.

  • Patent number: 6800022
Abstract: An improved HVAC control method immediately closes an air inlet valve to provide full cabin air recirculation when an outside air quality sensor detects polluted air, and thereafter progressively re-opens the air inlet valve at a determined rate when the air quality sensor detects unpolluted air. Preferably, the air quality sensor quantifies the pollution level of the outside air, and the opening rate of the air inlet valve is determined based on the detected pollution level. Following a high level of detected air pollution, the valve is re-opened at a relatively slow rate, and following a low level of detected air pollution, the valve is re-opened at a relatively fast rate.
