  • Publication number: 20040149908
Abstract: A hermetic package of a type used to contain a sensing element, such as an infrared sensing element. The package comprises a base having a base wall and sidewalls surrounding the base wall to define a first recess within the base. The sensing element is fabricated on a device chip disposed within the first recess. A lid is hermetically sealed with the base to enclose the sensing element. The lid defines a second recess that communicates with the first recess, such that the first and second recesses define a continuous cavity between the lid and the base and in which the device chip is contained. The depth of the second recess is preferably at least about half the depth of the sensing element within the first recess, such that neither the lid nor the base are required to have a deep recess that defines essentially the entire cavity in which the device chip is contained.

  • Patent number: 6769889
Abstract: A gerotor pump for pressurizing gasoline fuel is capable of developing pressures up to 2.0 MPa with good mechanical and volumetric efficiency and satisfying the durability requirements for an automotive fuel pump. The pump has been designed with optimized clearances and by including features that promote the formation of lubricating films of pressurized fuel. Features of the improved pump include the use of a shadow port in the side plate opposite the outlet port to promote balancing of high fuel pressures on the opposite sides of the rotors. Inner and outer rotors have predetermined side clearances with the clearances of the outer rotor being greater than those of the inner rotor in order to promote fuel pressure balance on the sides of the outer rotor. Support of the inner rotor and a drive shaft on a single bushing with bearing sleeves maintains concentricity. Additional features are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6767411
Abstract: A lead-free solder alloy consisting essentially of, by weight, 3.0% to 3.5% silver, greater than 1% to about 15% copper, the balance tin and incidental impurities, and having an effective melting range of about 215° C. to about 222° C. The solder alloy is noneutectic, and therefore characterized by solidus and liquidus temperatures, the former being in a range of about 215° C. to about 218° C., while the latter is about 290° C. or more. However, the melting mechanism exhibited by the alloy is such that the alloy is substantially all melted and does not exhibit a “mushy zone” above the effective melting range, enabling the alloy to behave similarly to the SnAgCu eutectic alloy.

  • Patent number: 6765306
Abstract: Method and system are provided that allow determining in a vehicle having two or more sources of electrical energy what corrective action needs to be undertaken in the event one of the energy sources, due to malfunctions and/or environmental conditions, is not able to carry through a cranking event. The system, by way of a bidirectional DC/DC converter, has the capability to transfer electrical energy in either direction between the energy sources. The system includes a controller configurable with computer-readable logic or intelligence that enables the controller to make a decision based on appropriate source parameters, e.g., temperature, to automatically determine when, where, and how much energy needs to be transferred. This decision will enhance the opportunity to successfully perform the next starting or cranking event.

  • Patent number: 6766425
Abstract: A method for computer memory calibration includes flashing a calibration from a processor into two flash memory sections. Either the same or an alternate processor requests data stored in one of the flash memory sections. Subsequently, exception handler logic within an exception mechanism activates and generates an exception for the data stored in the aforementioned flash memory section. The calibration in the other flash memory section then transfers to the processor through the functioning of the exception.

  • Patent number: 6765389
Abstract: An energy system is formed of a plurality of battery cells, and has an application associated therewith that draws power from the energy system. As the application is being used, voltage and current measurements are taken at a predetermined rate, and stored in a history table to create a series of time-based measurements. The measurements stored in the history table are then processed to compute an impedance parameter value corresponding to the AC impedance of the energy system This impedance parameter value is then stored in a memory buffer where it can be used to carry out various diagnotic and control functions.
