Publication number: 20100253455Abstract: A spark plug coil assembly has a primary core bearing primary windings and a secondary winding spool around which secondary windings are wound and in which the primary core is received. A case receives the spool with core. The entire case can be made of composite Iron to function as a magnetic return path for the core, or a composite Iron shield can be overmolded to an otherwise plastic case.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2009Publication date: October 7, 2010Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Edgard Wolf, Albert Anthony Skinner, Mark Albert Paul

Publication number: 20060131495Abstract: A method and apparatus for evaluating the functionality and sensitivity of an infrared sensor to infrared radiation. The method and apparatus are adapted for testing an infrared sensor having a diaphragm containing a heating element and a transducer that generates an output responsive to temperature. The method entails placing the infrared sensor in a controlled environment, and then exposing the diaphragm of the sensor to different levels of thermal radiation so as to obtain outputs of the transducer at different output levels. In the absence of exposure of the diaphragm to thermal radiation, flowing current through the heating element at different input levels so that the output of the transducer returns to the different output levels obtained using thermal radiation, the input difference between the input levels can be computed and used to assess the functionality and the sensitivity of the sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2004Publication date: June 22, 2006Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: James Logsdon, Pedro Castillo-Borelly, Abhijeet Chavan, Michael Donahue, Deron Slaughter

Patent number: 6915710Abstract: An optical torque sensor comprises a radiation source emitting radiation of at least one wavelength. At least one sensor senses the emitted radiation and generates at least one intensity signal indicative of the intensity of the emitted radiation. At least one signal conditioner is receptive of the emitted radiation and is positioned on a shaft between the radiation source and the at least one sensor thereby conditioning the emitted radiation. A circuit is receptive of the at least one intensity signal and determines the torque acting upon the shaft and compensates for the attenuation of the emitted radiation.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2001Date of Patent: July 12, 2005Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventor: Warren B. Nicholson

Patent number: 6758492Abstract: An air bag restraint system for a transportation vehicle. The restraint system includes an inflatable curtain having a gas inlet, an upper edge, a lower edge and a perimeter. A gas emitting inflator is in fluid communication with the gas inlet. The inflatable curtain includes an inflatable flow channel in fluid communication with the gas inlet. The inflatable flow channel extends at least partially around the inflatable curtain in a path such that at least a potion of the inflation gas is communicated through the inflatable flow channel and along the lower edge.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2002Date of Patent: July 6, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventor: Todd E. Patent number: 6698512Abstract: An improved vehicle heating and air conditioning system includes a driver-manipulated temperature selector that is physically coupled to a discharge temperature control mechanism. The selector is operable in a normal mode in which movement of the selector away from a full cold setting produces a corresponding movement of the temperature control mechanism that increases the discharge air temperature by re-heating or a high fuel efficiency mode in which movement of the temperature selector away from the full cold setting allows the temperature control mechanism to remain in a full cold position for a limited range of selector movement while the discharge air temperature is increased by capacity reduction of the refrigerant compressor. The temperature selector is in the form of a rotary knob that is axially shiftable to change modes when the selector is positioned at the full cold setting and spring-biased so that the normal mode is established as the default mode.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2002Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventors: Wayne Oliver Forrest, Phillip M. Patent number: 6371250Abstract: An ABS brake system employs two axially slidable brake discs and four brake pads that are biased to have floating light random contact therebetween in the off brake position. The ABS controller operates the brake pads with about one half of the usual brake pressure and about double the number of the usual braking and release cycles. The floating axially slidable brake discs and four brake pads have reduced residual torque drag during the brake release cycle and have reduced hystersis. The result is operation at a higher frequency and with less amplitude, than the usual sliding caliper and fixed brake system, and a resolution of a modulating scale for cycling that is usually associated with a much lower coefficient of friction surface than is actually present.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2001Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth J. Patent number: 5144474Abstract: A substantially closed processing station designed to disperse chemicals for uniformly coating or otherwise contacting an emulsion-coated or other surface is disclosed. The station includes opposed chemical chambers, each of which is covered with a perforated film and, optionally, a screen-like material, between which materials the photographic film or other substrate passes. Distension of the upper perforated film ensures contact between the film (or the screen) and the photographic film moving through the station while minimizing the pressure on and resulting abrading of the substrate's surface. Because the matched peripheries of the upper and lower chambers are closely fitted, the processing station is virtually sealed from the surrounding atmosphere and little degradation of the processing chemicals occurs even after extended periods of nonuse.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1989Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventors: John B. Keable, Steve Bostic

Patent number: 5113351Abstract: An automated, interactive system for receiving, storing, processing, retrieving and dispensing film, still video camera diskettes, or other products which must be processed. The system includes an unmanned, automated and computerized apparatus analogous to an automatic teller machine (ATM). Instructions presented on an interactive video display prompt a patron to enter identification information and data concerning the type of photoprocessing desired. The information entered is stored on a floppy computer disc or transmitted electronically to a remote processing facility via a telephone link and used to track the order as it is processed at a remote location. The finished prints are returned to the apparatus and stored in a compartmentalized storage unit while awaiting pick-up by the customer. A random access retrieval mechanism included in the apparatus allows packages of processed prints to be stored in any empty compartments of the storage unit.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1989Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventor: Steve Bostic

Patent number: 5047795Abstract: A system of substantially closed processing stations designed to disperse chemicals for uniformly coating or otherwise contacting an emulsion-coated or other surface or strip is disclosed. The system comprises one or more slotted stations through which developing chemicals are transmitted into shallow sinks. The chemicals uniformly contact the strip as it travels over the sinks and subsequently are removed from the strip along with by-products of the reaction by wipers or ribs and disposed through disposal slots in the stations. The ribs also agitate the chemicals and emulsion to assist uniform developing of the strip. Because the processing station is virtually sealed from the surrounding atmosphere, little degradation of the processing chemicals occurs even after extended periods of nonuse.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1989Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Assignee: Delphi Technology, Inc.Inventors: John B.
