Patent number: 7424354Abstract: A deployment method for a supplemental restraint system having multiple distributed acceleration sensors dynamically classifies each crash event based on relationships among the acceleration signals. A severity threshold is selected based on the instant crash classification, and a measure of crash severity is compared to the selected severity threshold to determine if the restraints should be deployed. The measure of crash severity is determined by computing individual measures of crash severity for the various frontal acceleration sensors and selecting the highest of the individual measures.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2004Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Junqiang Shen

Patent number: 7423540Abstract: A method of detecting the state of an operator of a vehicle utilizes a low-cost operator state detection system having no more than one camera located preferably in the vehicle and directed toward a driver. A processor of the detection system processes preferably three points of the facial feature of the driver to calculate head pose and thus determine driver state (i.e. distracted, drowsy, etc.). The head pose is generally a three dimensional vector that includes the two angular components of yaw and pitch, but preferably not roll. Preferably, an output signal of the processor is sent to a counter measure system to alert the driver and/or accentuate vehicle safety response.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Branislav Kisacanin

Patent number: 7421989Abstract: A vane-type camshaft phaser having a rotational authority between 40 crank degrees before TDC and 30 crank degrees after TDC. The phaser includes a stator seat formed at a rotation position intermediate between full advance and full retard. A locking pin in a vane of the rotor engages the seat, locking the rotor at the intermediate position. The pin is disengaged by pressurized engine oil independent of oil flows for advance and retard of the rotor. The oil is controlled by a dedicated valve. Preferably, the seat and the ends of the locking pin are vented by passages in the rotor and stator which are aligned when the rotor is at the selected locking angle to remove oil resistance to entry of the pin into the seat. To position the locking pin over the seat, phasing rate is reduced to allow time for the locking pin to engage the seat.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2005Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas H. Patent number: 7422052Abstract: A thermosiphon cooling assembly for dissipating heat generated by an electronic device includes a housing having a housing top, housing bottom and opposing sides. The opposing sides extend between the housing top and the housing bottom to define a low profile entrance and a low profile exit. A refrigerant is disposed within one or more boiling chambers. Heat generated by the electronic device is transferred to the refrigerant by the boiling chambers for liquid-to-vapor transformation. Condenser tubes having a bottom end and a top end extend from the boiling chambers at a diagonally upward angle across the sides between the housing bottom and housing top. The condenser tubes receive and condense vapor boiled off from the refrigerant. Air moving devices axially move air through the housing. Air is flowed across the condenser tubes to facilitate condensation.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2006Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ilya Reyzin, Mohinder Singh Bhatti, Shrikant Mukund Joshi

Patent number: 7421991Abstract: A vane-type camshaft phaser includes a vaned camshaft rotor disposed within a lobed stator, defining phase advance and retard chambers filled with oil. The height of the rotor is less than the height of the stator, providing space for a vaned brake rotor alongside the camshaft rotor. The brake rotor is free to rotate independently of the camshaft rotor. The volume of each advance and retard chamber is a function of the rotational position of both the camshaft rotor and the brake rotor, and the volume of each chamber is constant. Rotation of the brake rotor in one direction causes rotation of the camshaft rotor in the opposite direction. The brake rotor is connected to a controllable brake mechanism. By sensing of the camshaft rotor position and feedback control of the braking mechanism, the camshaft rotor may be maintained at any position.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2006Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Bruno Lequesne, Elias Taye

Patent number: 7421773Abstract: Silicon-based high pressure sensor modules are manufactured in an array arrangement, incorporating a low temperature cofired ceramic (LTCC) substrate. The LTCC substrate can withstand high pressures. Bossed containers filled with oil are mounted on the substrate in an array. These bossed containers house the sensor cells which are composed of a sensor handle wafer and a diaphragm. The top surface of these bossed containers are flexible and deflect under pressure. By controlling the surface area and the thickness of the top surface, the pressure sensors can be configured to measure a wide range of pressures. The oil transfers pressure from the bossed container to the diaphragm of the sensor cell while protecting the sensor cell from high pressures and harsh media.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2007Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Timothy A.
