Publication number: 20030061845Abstract: A wobble joint particularly useful for supporting a wash plate in a wash basket of an automatic washing appliance includes inner and outer races formed with mating part-spherical surfaces having common centers of curvature about a longitudinal axis of the joint. Anti-rotation structure acts between the inner and outer races to prevent relative rotation of the races about the longitudinal axis, and cooperates with the part-spherical surfaces to restrict the races to two degrees of tilting movement about respective tilt axes disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and to one another, such that one of the races is thereby supported for wobbling movement relative to the other of the races. In a washing appliance application, the wash plate is fixed to the outer race and wobbles relative to the inner race.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2002Publication date: April 3, 2003Applicant: DELPHI TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: William Paul Skvarla, Leland Nels Olgren

Patent number: 6539670Abstract: A manual release mechanism of a power actuated sliding door used typically for van applications, includes a bullet assembly interconnected between the ends of a pull member, or cable, of a powered pulley system. The bullet assembly engages and disengages within a passage of a hinge roller assembly which rides within a track of the vehicle. When disengaged, the door is free to slide without causing movement of the bullet assembly or powered pulley system. When engaged, the hinge roller assembly supports a pin which projects into the passage when in a rest position. If the bullet assembly is in the passage, the pin also projects into a groove of the bullet assembly, thereby, locking the bullet assembly within the passage and causing the hinge rolling assembly, which is pivotally connected to the door to move via operation of the powered pulley system.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald Helmut Haag, Lloyd Walker Rogers, Jr., Ronald James Wilde, Thomas Ralph Osborn

Patent number: 6539771Abstract: An air bag calibrator that is used to calibrate a plurality of seat sensors within a seat simultaneously. The calibrator uses controlled pressure contained within an air bladder and an air press cylinder to apply a controlled force across an entire seat surface that actuates all of the seat sensors in a consistent and repeatable manner, a major improvement over existing seat calibration methods. This is accomplished by loading a seat onto the calibrator, recording a baseline seat sensor value for each of the seat sensors, extending the air press cylinder to an extended position and applying a controlled force across the entire seat surface. The air pressure in the air bladder is then increased or decreased to a target pressure for a predetermined time, at which time an actuated seat sensor values for each of the seat sensors is recorded.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2000Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Steven Lee Davidson, Timothy Dean Garner, Samuel Joseph Parr, Ronald Lee Anderson, Keith Kendell Roberts, James O Anderson

Patent number: 6542802Abstract: An improved weight-based occupant characterization method reliably distinguishes between a child or small adult and a tightly cinched child seat based on a variance in the sensed occupant weight and a variance in the vehicle acceleration. The weight variance and acceleration variance are used to determine a relative or normalized variance that compensates for the effects of operating the vehicle on a rough road surface. The occupant is characterized as a child seat if the normalized variance is below a first threshold for a predetermined interval, and as a child or small adult if the normalized variation exceeds a second threshold for a predetermined interval.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Charles A. Publication number: 20030057395Abstract: A magnetorheological fluid formulation in which the base liquid is optimized to exhibit an acceptable viscosity, a low volatility, improved low temperature flow properties, and an improved elastomeric compatibility. The fluid formulation includes a base liquid containing a mixture of 1-dodecene polyalphaolefin and a diester, such as dioctyl sebacate. The diester is added to the mixture in an amount effective to produce seal swelling and to lower the pour point. The viscosity of the fluid formulation is suitable for diverse vibration damping applications that require a vibration damping device to operate in the temperature range of about −40° C. to about 100° C. The low volatility and seal swelling properties of the fluid formulation reduce, inhibit or eliminate fluid loss about the seals of the vibration damping device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 21, 2001Publication date: March 27, 2003Applicant: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Vardarajan R. Patent number: 6536565Abstract: A rotary damper for use in motor vehicle suspensions comprising a rotor disposed within damping fluid in a fluid chamber of a case to form fluid volumes, with valves for flow control and an accumulator for fluid fill variation and thermal expansion mounted internal to the rotor. A first check valve and first control valve mounted in a first flow passage within the rotor allow flow from second fluid volume to first fluid volume, but restrict flow from the first fluid volume to the second fluid volume. Similarly, a second check valve and a second control valve mounted in a second flow passage within the rotor allow flow from the first fluid volume to the second fluid volume, but restrict flow from the second fluid volume to the first fluid volume. Thus, the valves are configured to provide independent control of damping for each direction of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Michael L. Patent number: 6538429Abstract: An angular position sensor assembly for a vehicle generator shaft includes one magnet and three magnetic field sensors placed within a housing. The sensors are disposed on a circuit board that is parallel to the end of a generator shaft. The sensors are configured so that signals from the sensors are out-of-phase by predetermined angles. The generator shaft alternatingly forms plural slots and plural teeth. As the shaft rotates, the slots and teeth cause a change in a magnetic field around each sensor. By sensing the changes in the magnetic field, the position of the shaft can be determined from the out of phase signals received from the sensors.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thaddeus Schroeder, Jose Alberto Guerra

Patent number: 6537892Abstract: A method of glass frit bonding wafers to form a package, in which the width of the glass bond line between the wafers is minimized to reduce package size. The method entails the use of a glass frit material containing a particulate filler material that establishes the stand-off distance between wafers, instead of relying on discrete structural features on one of the wafers dedicated to this function. In addition, the amount of glass frit material used to form the glass bond line between wafers is reduced to such levels as to reduce the width of the glass bond line, allowing the overall size of the package to be minimized. To accommodate the variability associated with screening processes when low volume lines of paste are printed, the invention further entails the use of storage regions defined by walls adjacent the glass bond line to accommodate excess glass frit material without significantly increasing the width of the bond line.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Larry Lee Jordan, Douglas A. Knapp
