Publication number: 20020108463Abstract: An emulator affixed to a brake arm connected to a brake pedal of an electric brake system is capable of emulating a hydraulic brake. The emulator includes a housing defining a fluid chamber containing a magneto-rheological (MR) fluid. A piston is slideably disposed within the piston chamber and a spring biases the piston to resist depression of the brake pedal. A magnetic source generates a magnetic field upon the MR fluid thereby increasing the sheer resistance of the MR fluid further resisting depression of the brake pedal emulating a hydraulic brake system. The amount of resistance can be varied according to the strength of the magnetic field exerted on the MR fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2001Publication date: August 15, 2002Applicant: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Schuyler Scott Shaw, Ernst S. Patent number: 6430489Abstract: An improved deployment method for a vehicular supplemental restraint system having an acceleration sensor and a restraint device to be deployed for occupant protection in a crash event, where the deployment threshold is adaptively adjusted based on the magnitude and rate of change of a filtered acceleration signal and the progression level of the sensed event. The deployment threshold is periodically adjusted based on the rate of change of the filtered acceleration signal, if the magnitude of the filtered acceleration signal is within a range specified for the progression level of the sensed event. The maximum amount of adjustment is also specified based on the progression level of the event. As a result, the deployment threshold tends to follow or track the filtered acceleration signal, particularly for non-deployment events where the magnitude of the filtered acceleration signal is within the specified range, thereby preventing deployment of the restraints.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1998Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Joseph Thomas Dalum

Patent number: 6430120Abstract: A compact disc player includes an optical pickup supported by a carriage and a microprocessor for controlling the movement of a coarse actuator and a fine actuator. The coarse actuator controls the movement of the carriage and maintains its position when power is interrupted to the coarse actuator. The fine actuator is disposed between the carriage and the pickup and provides fine movement for the pickup when power is supplied to the actuator. The fine actuator moves the pickup to a neutral position when power is interrupted. A resume function is provided that restores the position of the pickup after a power interruption to its position before the interruption. A value indicative of the position of the pickup relative to the carriage is stored in memory. When power is restored to the disc player, the value is read from memory. The disc control microprocessor directs incremental movements of the fine actuator until the position of the pickup corresponds to the position represented by the stored value.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1999Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Donald James Chritz, Jr., James Robert Pressgrove, Dan Darryl Carman

Patent number: 6422307Abstract: The present invention is directed to liquid-cooled or air-cooled metallic heat sinks formed as unibody structures that include a planar base and upright fins. The fins are located on one side of the heat sink and the ratio of fin spacing to fin height is low. In order to achieve low value of the ratio of fin spacing to fin height, a fin density of greater than about twelve fins per centimeter is employed. The length of the fins in the flow direction is restricted in order to yield high rate of heat dissipation from the finned surface. Furthermore, flow of the cooling fluid over the fins is maintained laminar in order to reduce the noise level and pumping power for the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2001Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Mohinder Singh Bhatti, Russell S.
