  • Patent number: 7039988
Abstract: A wedge dead end employs a single wedge-shaped jaw movable in an angled jaw guide between a rearward open position and a forward gripping position. The single jaw wedge dead end defines a fixed cable trough generally parallel to a lower gripping surface of the wedge-shaped jaw. When released from its rearward open position the jaw moves toward its forward gripping position and into a wedging engagement against a conductor disposed in the cable trough. Forward movement of the jaw applies gripping force against the conductor until the full tension of the transmission line is developed.

  • Patent number: 6770809
Abstract: A wildlife guard for live electrical power equipment to prevent wildlife from simultaneously contacting an electrically energized surface and an electrically grounded surface, which includes an arcuate member having a peripheral surface. An array of petals is carried on the arcuate member extend radially outward from the peripheral surface. Each of the petals is movable from a first position in which each of the petals is substantially coincident with a plane of the arcuate member and a second position that is oblique to the plane. Each of the petals is biased to a position that is substantially coincident with the plane. A pair of arcuate shoes are dimensioned and configured for engagement with an associated apparatus that is being protected.

  • Patent number: 6676454
Abstract: A top-loading pad mount electrical connector is provided with swing-away pressure pads for securing secondary conductors to the connector body. The swing-away pressure pads are frictionally engaged with threaded fasteners to pivot with the fastener between a clamping position where a jaw is aligned with and over a conductor lay-in groove and an open position which clears a conductor lay-in opening above the lay-in groove. A split insulating cover permits the top-loading pad mount connector to be installed and the connections with secondary conductors established prior to electrically insulating the assembly to ensure code compliance.

  • Publication number: 20020177353
Abstract: A hot line clamp for attachment to an associated electrical distribution line comprises a first body that has a first body that has a first jaw and a second body that has a second jaw. One of the first and second bodies has a screw thread disposed therein. An eyebolt is dimensioned and configured for engaging the screw thread. The eyebolt has surfaces engaging the other of the bodies to force the other of the bodies toward the one of the first and second bodies to cause the first and second jaws to clamp on an associated line conductor. One of the bodies further includes a first mounting pad for mounting at least one adapter for making an additional connection to the hot line clamp. In some forms of the invention, the first mounting pad includes non-planar surfaces to increase the contact area and to provide locking engagement.

  • Publication number: 20020064978
Abstract: A ground connector for use with an associated distribution transformer which includes a base. The base includes apparatus for attaching the base to the associated distribution transformer and a fixed jaw. The ground connector also includes a movable jaw, the movable jaw includes first surfaces dimensioned and configured for engagement with second surfaces of the base to guide movement of the movable jaw with respect to the base. The movable jaw moves generally radially with respect to the associated distribution transformer to secure an associated cable intermediate the fixed jaw and the movable jaw when the ground connector is installed on an associated distribution transformer. The fixed jaw and the movable jaw hold the associated cable generally tangentially to the associated distribution transformer when the ground connector is installed on an associated distribution transformer. In some forms of the invention at least one of the first and second surfaces includes at least one elongated rib.

  • Patent number: 6390861
Abstract: A connector for joining two associated electrical conductors which includes first and second J-shaped jaws. The first and second J-shaped jaws respectively include first and second generally cylindrical section shaped concave portions and respective first and second generally planar stem portions. The first and second generally planar stem portions are disposed in generally overlapping relationship with the first and second generally cylindrical section shaped concave portions disposed in opposed relationship. The connector further includes a spring to bias the first and second J-shaped jaws and to position the first and second generally cylindrical section shaped concave portions closer together. The connector also includes a wedge member having opposed first and second generally cylindrical section shaped concave portions. The wedge member is disposed intermediate the first and second generally cylindrical section shaped concave portions of the first and second J-shaped jaws.
