  • Patent number: 5865506
Abstract: An automotive vehicle includes a lock mechanism for locking a seat slide unit on which a vehicle seat is mounted or a seat reclining unit mounted on the vehicle seat. A screw rotatably mounted on an upper rail is in mesh with a nut secured to a lower rail or mounted on a seat back frame. Each of the screw and the nut has a lead angle greater than an angle of friction thereof so that the screw can rotate in response to a load applied to the vehicle seat or a seat back, thus enabling adjustment of the position of the vehicle seat in a direction longitudinally of the vehicle body or that of the angle of inclination of the seat back. If deceleration or acceleration of a value not smaller than a predetermined value is applied to the vehicle seat, the screw is urgently locked to thereby maintain the current position of the vehicle seat or the current angle of inclination of the seat back.

  • Patent number: 5853084
Abstract: A plunger mechanism is disclosed comprising: a plunger slidable in a generally cylindrical body between an extended position and a retracted position. A bush receives the body for relative rotation about the axis. The body and the bush are formed with co-operating means allowing the body to slide axially when the body is in one rotational position relative to the bush and to be locked axially when the body is in another rotational position relative to the bush. A stop member is slidable in the body and biassed in one direction. The stop member is formed with a lug projecting through a slot in the body and into a slot in the bush. The plunger is provided with means for engaging the stop member to slide it in the body against the bias. The slots in the body and in the bush each have a narrow section in which the lug locates when the stop member is in a first position in the direction in which it is biassed.

  • Patent number: 5853013
Abstract: A pre-wash process and apparatus for recycling polymer tubing contaminated with large amounts of organic matter, soil, and so forth. The pre-wash process includes the steps of sizing the contaminated polymer tubing into small pieces, conveying the polymer tubing on a first conveyor into a rotating wash trommel, washing the polymer tubing in the rotating wash trommel, conveying the polymer tubing on a second conveyor through a pre-rinse stage and then into a rotating rinse trommel, rinsing the polymer tubing in the rinse trommel, discharging the polymer tubing from the rinse trommel into a float/sink tank, passing the polymer tubing through the float/sink tank to a third conveyor, and conveying the polymer tubing into a suitable container for delivery to a final wash and pelletizing process. The wash trommel and rinse trommel each comprises a rotating cylinder with internal helical flighting that causes intense rolling and agitation of the polymer tubing.

  • Patent number: 5847944
Abstract: In a single-switch, three-phase DCM boost rectifier, a voltage signal proportional to the inverted ac component of the rectified, three-phase, line-to-line input voltages is injected as a modulating signal into the control circuit to vary the duty cycle of the rectifier within one line cycle. As a result of its generation method, the injected signal is naturally synchronized with the three-phase, line-to-neutral input voltage. In addition, the injection method of this invention does not affect the closed-loop feedback control of the DCM boost rectifier since the injected signal is generated in an open-loop fashion. Three alternative methods to generate the injection signal are described. One method uses three low-frequency, step down transformers in generating the injection signal. The other two methods use operational amplifiers instead of the transformers.

  • Patent number: 5816675
Abstract: An optical projector is described that orients its optics engine preferably vertically within an enclosure that is higher than it is wide or deep. The invented optics engine uses a prismatic cube for color separation or beam splitting, with the prismatic elements within the cube being secured within a durable frame that mounts the three color light valves, e.g. twisted nematic liquid crystal display (LCD)-type shutters, in a predefined position and orientation relative to the prismatic cube. In order to improve image quality and brightness, especially of the notoriously difficult-to-reproduce green color, red and blue beams are S polarized, as is conventional, but the green beam is P-polarized.

  • Patent number: 5816627
Abstract: A coupling comprising a first member defining a socket, a second number such as a tube defining a spigot inserted into an open end of the socket, and a locking device received within an annular gap defined between an inner wall of the socket and an outer wall of the spigot. The locking device comprises circumferentially spaced load-bearing members, each load-bearing member extending within the annular gap from a first end which is relatively close to the open end of the socket and a second end which is relatively remote from the open end of the socket. Each load-bearing member is resiliently biased such that the first end engages the socket and the second end engages the spigot, and each load-bearing member is dimensioned such that it acts substantially as a beam in compression to resist withdrawal of the spigot from the socket.
