  • Patent number: 5415198
Abstract: A deflector has a ring attached at a first end to a pressurized vessel and around the sealed opening in the vessel. Rods project from a second end of the ring and a cover is mounted on the rods with springs holding the cover over the second end of said ring. Either the ring or the cover has an aperture therethrough an exhaust tube has one end located to receive fluid flowing through the aperture. When a small leak occurs at the sealed opening, escaping fluid flows through the exhaust tube and when the flow of escaping fluid is too great for the exhaust tube to handle, the cover slides away from the tube creating a larger passage through which the fluid can flow.

  • Patent number: 5219150
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a duct with a tube assembly supported by a hanger that extends through an opening in the roof of the duct. A jack is provided to raise and lower the tube assembly during maintenance. The jack includes a base with an aperture therethrough and a pair of rollers attached to the underside of the base so that the jack can be moved across the roof. A pair of fluid operated cylinders are mounted on the base and project upward on opposite sides of the aperture. A jacking frame is attached to the other ends of both the cylinders and a rod extension passes through the base aperture for connecting the jacking frame to the hanger.

  • Patent number: 5136985
Abstract: An assembly ties together a plurality of boiler tubes to increase their mechanical stability and maintain a uniform spacing between adjacent tubes. A tie bar has a plurality of periodically spaced fingers extending from a cross member to form openings between adjacent fingers with in which the boiler tubes tightly fit. A retainer projects orthogonally from ends of some of the fingers. A locking bar has wedges spaced along one edge which engage the retainers clamping the boiler tubes between the fingers of said locking bar. Stops and brackets attach to the boiler tubes to support the fingers and cross member, thereby holding the tie bar in place during assembly.

  • Patent number: 5131459
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a duct through which heated gases pass. A plurality of tube panels are within the duct and each panel includes a header from which a plurality of tubes extend. A pair of hangers support each tube panel to form space in the duct above and below the tube panel for maintenance access. Baffles restrict the flow of gases through these spaces. Each hanger has a bracket attached to the header of the tube panel with a rod pivotally coupled to the bracket and extending through an aperture in the roof of the duct. The hangers are connected to structural members on the exterior of the duct in a manner that maintains the tube panel in a fixed position during operation of the heat exchanger, while allowing movement of a panel within said duct for maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4421067
Abstract: A valve-controlled pneumatic actuator is used to actuate a movable cleaning head to remove soot, ash or other sediment from tubes, headers and other internal parts of a heat exchanger of the type used in coal gasification plants. A rotary sootblower tube is coupled to a stationary inlet tube in a chamber of the heat exchanger vessel where a hot, highly pressurized and dirty gas circulates. Both the actuator and the stationary inlet tube are fixed to the vessel so that seals for moving parts are avoided. In one embodiment, the blowing tube extends in the inlet tube to a free end, and in another embodiment the opposite end is mounted to rotate around a stub tube. The blowing medium is provided in a jet or blast through nozzles in the blowing tube to loosen soot in the internal parts of the heat exchanger. The blowing medium is also used to power the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4414923
Abstract: A boiler for generating steam by the recovery of heat from a hot gas stream including an enclosed pressure vessel, a baffle dividing the interior of the vessel into upper and lower compartments, one or more upper headers in the upper compartment, a bundle of water tubes supported from the upper headers and extending into the lower compartment, one or more lower headers supported by the lower ends of the water tubes, and a shroud structure in the lower compartment of the boiler extending about the perimeter of the bundle of water tubes.

  • Patent number: 4188916
Abstract: A waste heat boiler has an elongated horizontally oriented gas pass, a steam drum extending lengthwise of the gas pass but wholly outside the same at an elevation near but not above the roof of the gas pass. Transversely extending rows of nested water tubes which are preferably L-shaped with vertical and substantially horizontal stretches have the outer extremities of their substantially horizontal stretches joined to vertical feeder headers that extend upwardly along one side wall of the gas pass, and have the upper extremities of their vertical stretches joined to collecting headers that extend transversely across the gas pass just below its roof. The rows of tubes are arranged in groups or bundles, each held together by distributing headers and receiving headers that are separately connected with the steam drum and to which are respectively joined the feeder headers and the receiving headers.

  • Patent number: 4153012
Abstract: A vertical watertube boiler in which a bank of vertically oriented uniformly spaced watertubes, located in an upright cylindrical shell that has enlarged diameter upper and lower end portions, connect paired headers mounted on and protruding into diametrically opposite sides of the enlarged diameter end portions of the shell, the end portions of the tubes being bent laterally outward and joined to wall portions common to the headers and the gas pass formed by the shell; the headers associated with the upper enlarged diameter end portion of the shell being connected by risers with a steam drum and the headers at the lower enlarged end portion of the shell being connected with the steam drum by downcomers.
