  • Patent number: 8460243
Abstract: A combination glucose measuring and insulin pumping device is described. The two major components, a glucose measuring module and an insulin pump, are held together by a quick attach and release mechanism. Communication between the glucose measuring module and the insulin pump is by a wireless modality. The glucose measuring module determines the glucose level in a sample, and wirelessly transmits the data to the insulin pump, where the data are stored in a memory, and are available for visual display on the insulin pump, and for incorporation into selection of appropriate protocols for the rate of insulin infusion by the pump into the patient.

  • Patent number: 6613015
Abstract: A right angle safety needle has a base to which an arm is hingedly mounted at a proximal portion. The base has an opening at its distal portion wherethrough the vertical portion of the right angle needle extends. A well is formed adjacent the opening and a dam is provided on the side of the well away from the opening. To retract the needle from the opening, the horizontal portion of the needle, which may be encased in an arm, is rotated about the upright to which it is hingedly connected so that the needle is pivoted upwards and withdrawn from the opening. Once the tip of the needle clears the opening, due to the tip of the needle being offset from the body of the needle and the fact that the needle tends to flex forward, the tip of the needle is entrapped in the well adjacent to the opening. The dam forward of the well provides a backstop for any further forward movement of the tip of the needle, thereby fixedly retaining the needle within the well.

  • Patent number: 6422057
Abstract: A drug pump testing system and method comprise a pump control module having tube engaging members, with the pump control module coupled to a calibration cassette. The calibration cassette houses a reservoir bag comprising a fluid chamber and a collection area. The fluid chamber contains a known test volume prior to the initiation of the test cycle. The fluid chamber of the reservoir bag is coupled with a tube leading to the collection area, and the tube is positioned along the calibration cassette for occlusion by the tube engaging members of the pump control module. The reservoir bag comprises a fluid chamber and a collection area. The cassette can be a dual purpose cassette which tests sensors on the pump control module and also tests the accuracy of the pump control module.

  • Patent number: 6123686
Abstract: The present invention concerns a pump provided with a control module and an attachable fluid reservoir cassette. The control module includes a pumping mechanism for pumping fluid from the fluid reservoir to the patient. The cassette is provided with appropriate indicia to identify differences between a plurality of cassettes. The control module further includes cassette indicia identification structure for identifying indicia on the cassette. One type of cassette identification system includes a projection extending from the cassette and structure associated with the control module which engages the projection. Another type of cassette identification system includes a light reflecting system which utilizes light from the control module and reflected off the cassette. Still other types of cassette identification systems utilize other non-contact switches or sensors to sense indicia on the cassette to identify the cassette from a plurality of cassettes.
