  • Patent number: 6335385
Abstract: The invention provides a curable system and method of making a dental prosthesis. The method of making a dental prosthesis includes providing a one component denture base resin composition which is polymerizable by microwave energy. The one component denture base resin composition is injected into a mold enclosed by a flask having a body wall which is substantially transparent to the microwave energy. The curable system includes microwave energy sensitive initiators and polymerizables (meth)acrylate Monomers having molecular weights preferably between 400 and 20,000. The initiators are adapted to initiate polymerization of the polymerizable Monomers by application of microwave energy to the flask. The initiators are adapted to remain stable and not initiate polymerization of the Monomers for at least one year at 23° C. in the absence of microwave energy.

  • Patent number: 6313191
Abstract: A composition and method of treating a dental tooth surface and adhering a restorative material to the treated dental tooth surface is provided. A liquid composition is applied to at least the portion of the tooth to form a treated surface. The composition includes at least 50 percent by weight of a volatile organic solvent, at least 15 percent by weight of one or more polymerizable acrylate compounds and an effective amount of a photoinitiator. At least a portion of the polymerizable compounds are multifunctional polymerizable compounds having at least three acrylate moieties. The polymerizable compounds are substantially soluble in the solvent. The composition is adapted to form a polymeric material which is adapted to adhere to dentin with a bond strength of at least 12 MPa. Restorative material is then adhered to the treated surface with a bond strength of at least about 12 MPa.

  • Patent number: 5932627
Abstract: The invention provides a fluoride releasing dental primer composition which includes a polymerizable acrylic compound, a light activated catalyst, and an organic amino hydrofluoride. This fluoride releasing dental primer composition is used by applying it to dentin and illuminating it with visible light to polymerize the polymerizable acrylic compound. The invention provides a method of priming dentin by applying a fluoride releasing dental primer composition. The fluoride releasing dental primer composition has a polymerizable acrylic compound, a light activated catalyst, and an organic amino hydrofluoride having from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms. The polymerizable acrylic compound is adapted to polymerize to form polymeric material. The organic amino hydrofluoride is adapted to leach from the polymeric material, chelate to dentin and release fluoride.

  • Patent number: 5688883
Abstract: The invention provides a polymerizable composition formed by mixing a liquid and a powder composition. The liquid composition includes a peroxide, which decomposes by at most fifty percent by weight of the peroxide within 10 hours at a temperature of at least 75.degree. C., and a polymerizable monomer. The powder composition comprising a proton donor, and a metal containing compound. The polymerizable composition has from 0.2 to 5 percent by weight of the peroxide, from 5 to 99 percent by weight of the polymerizable monomer, and from 0.1 to 3 percent by weight of the proton donor, and from 0.02 to 3 percent by weight of the metal containing compound. The polymerizable composition has an initial setting time and a storage setting time after storage of the first (liquid) composition for at least 12 months at a temperature of at least 23.degree. C. The initial setting time is within 2 minutes of the storage setting time.

  • Patent number: 4806383
Abstract: A method of building a dental appliance and a kit for use in the method are provided. In the method, metal copings are coated with an opague ceramic paste, and a coarse ceramic powder, having structural stability under the conditions needed to fire the ceramic paste, is dusted on the coating of ceramic paste, and the coping is fired. A coated metal coping with a rough, sandpaper like surface is produced, and subsequent layers of ceramic paste are applied to the rough surface to build up the dental appliance. The kit of the invention provides at least one preformed opaque ceramic paste, dusting powders, and other ingredients needed to build a dental appliance.
